It is easy to convert Excel to PDF and the opposite is also possible. When you convert a document into PDF it is like a snapshot and retains all the original formatting. The one downside is that it will not allow you to action an edit. And so, for instance, you have a spreadsheet which is in PDF format and need to edit it, you will first have to convert it. A PDF to Excel export is possible and this will allow you to make the changes you need. There are quite a few steps involved and you will have to follow them carefully. Open the Acrobat reader on your computer. If you do not have it, download the latest free version from the Adobe site. Once you have that, open up the software. Go to the “Start” tab and then click on “All Programs”. Now click on “File” and then on “Open”. You can now open the PDF file that you need to export to excel. Once the document has opened, press “Shift +V”. You will see the “Tools” icon on the main toolbar. Now click on it and drag a box right around the table that you want to export. If you wish to select the entire file, drag round the complete file. Once you have selected the data/text, right click inside this box and you will see a menu appearing. You will see the “Table” option inside this window. Check on it and choose “Save As”. Specify the file in which you wish to save that PDF table. Title the file and from the “Save as Type” window, select “ANSI Text” and click on “Save”. Now minimize the Adobe Acrobat window and open up Microsoft Excel. Go to the “File” option and click on “Open”. Select the txt file that had been saved earlier and click “Open”. The “Text Import” wizard will appear. Click on “Delimited”, which is the first step in the wizard. Once you have chosen this option, all the data such as commas and semicolons will separate all the columns and rows, as specified. Alternatively, you can choose the “Fixed Width” option. In this option a specific space will separate the fields. If you choose the “Fixed Width” option, you are required to select the width of all the columns manually. Now choose “Start Import at Row” and “Next”. Go to “File” and then click on “Save” from the “Save” dialogue box. Now select “Microsoft Excel Workbook” from the “Save as Type” dropdown menu. This will give the file the .xls extension and will complete the PDF to Excel export. It is also possible to action a reverse and export Excel to PDF. For this, you will have to download reliable conversion software. This is available online and you can try any of the free versions.
