Trek to Everest base camp alone is possible but it is never risk free. The trail along the EBC Trek is ups and downs following the deep gorges, cliffs and off beaten track. Walking alone in the high altitude is not favorable if you fall in sick or some unwanted circumstances occurred. The possibilities of going missing in EBC trek are altitude sickness , criminal attacks and less priority to get the room in a tea houses to the single trekkers unless the tea house has got a single room. Trekking alone is done basically to save the money. All necessary permits and paperwork is getting done at cheap price with a local trekking agency. The liability of this sort of agency is only up to obtain the Permits for the clients for little service charge. Sometimes the little saving consequences to exchange the life or a big trouble. Each year the solo trekkers who trek without a guide/porter or with no trekking accompany go missing in Everest Region Trek and other routes of Trekking in Nepal. What might be the possible consequences of trekking alone in Everest base camp: Chances of getting lost due to High altitude sickness If you trek alone to Everest base camp and if you are suffering from high altitude sickness then the possibilities of going missing is higher. The brain might not think properly and the chances of taking the wrong trail are higher which consequences higher risk to go solo trek to the EBC. The solo trekkers who went to Everest base camp trek and never traced is suspected to have taken a wrong trail. Criminal attacks Trek to Everest base camp is not so much notorious with a criminal attacks yet, there had been some assault to the trekkers. Possiblity of falling down the edge and lack of rescue Since the trail to Everest base camp passes through the off beaten track there is always probability of sprain ankles or falling down the edge and if nobody sights of it and the probability of rescue mighty be less which can cause fatal consequence. Getting Room for Single trekkers might be difficult. Sometimes if the tea house doesn’t have the single room( mostly the rooms are partitioned on twin bed basis and there is no dormitory room in EBC Trek) in some places getting room is not that easy. As the lodge owner prefers to sale the room for two tourist. Not to a single tourist to occupy two bed room. So if you trek even no in the group that is better. To avoid the above consequences at least have a realiable trekking accompany who won’t leave you alone in case of altitude sickness case of altitude sickness. Or join a trekking company who arranges a good guide and porters to assure your safety during your trek to Everest base camp and you’ll have chances to understand local culture and tradition. If you are trekking with tight budget at least hire an independent porter guide which doesn’t cost much. So make your Everest base camp trek safe and successful by planning well in advance.
