Not all that long ago that obesity with all of the complications were the domain of grown-ups. In the United States, things have deteriorated over the last thirty years or so. Not only are there more obese adults than ever, the affliction is affecting teens and kids at younger and younger ages. For children the most obvious influences are typically their parents though education and awareness raising are also super important. The parents, though, are the ones who are responsible for offering the most guidance and being the most positive role models properly. Obese kids are staring down the barrel of a plethora of physical and behavioral health problems. Looking beyond that, the kids are also at high risk for lots of issues that won't surface until later on. This deals these kids a terrible hand that is almost completely impossible to get past. Professionals and researchers have been studying this trend for about three decades. Children, pre-teens and teens have been steadily gaining more weight, and the health implications are enormous. Countless studies and mountains of research have been conducted with regards to this problem over the last twenty years or so. One thing is certain, obesity during younger years is a serious risk factor for very serious diseases in later years. The important thing for parents to understand is there is more to the story. Kids who are clinically obese and grossly overweight will experience these health effects a long time before they grow to be adults. The press have been covering childhood obesity for a very long time. But this has made almost no difference, even in the US where it has reached epidemic proportions. We all generally know what the causes are, but we are not here to discuss that or assign blame. If a child is overweight or obese now, then this can have major health dangers and may possibly be life-threatening in later years. An entire generation has a huge percentage of children that are suffering physically and even in psychological areas. It is hard enough to be a teen without having to endure being bullied about weight by others as well. Let's take a closer look at what the obese child is facing, today. In terms of health-related problems, time is an important factor. What this means is that it can sometimes take a lot of time for symptoms of these problems to become apparent. Of course, particularly in the case of childhood obesity, early years of the condition can set things in motion for problems later on. Still, kids don't usually have as many medical problems result from obesity because they are still young. The condition still filters into problems discovered later in life though. Some of the most severe problems are diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, liver disease, heart disease and stroke.
