Most of the wannabe entrepreneurs nurture a feeling of running a successful business at some point of time or the other in his life. The article tries to understand the common man psychology when it comes to venturing on his own and what stops him in doing so and how can he overcome the same? One can conduct an informal survey of various budding professionals from across streams and disciplines like engineering, management, medical science, architecture etc. so as to know whether they would prefer to work for themselves or for others. Invariably the results would heavily tilt towards the ones who would prefer to work for someone else rather than for themselves. For a beginner it’s always a safe option to work for someone else rather than test waters on their own as they feel they are not fit to do so due to various reasons. A common tendency amongst the masses is always to play safe, be it career, life-related decisions or even investments. Only a handful few have the guts to go against the conventional mindset and take the entrepreneurial plunge. The common negative influencers playing a pivotal role in crushing your entrepreneurial hunger could be lack of capital, lack of experience, lack of knowledge, fierce competition, lack of family history in the same line, lack of manpower, and many other similar frames of mind. There are various ways which can help any person to do away with these negatives: •Understand and see small success stories in your localities / contacts where a person starting from a humble beginning has rose to be a successful entrepreneur. •Talk to them and know what obstacles they faced and how they overcame the same. •Know how they motivate themselves against all odds. •List all the requirements your business plan needs and look for sourcing the same from different points after consulting professionals. •Make a solid business plan after consulting experts, experienced business personalities, bankers and then make an impressive presentation to financers. •Read and understand the regulatory obligations you have to follow and get the same clarified from experts or professionals. •Be passionate about your plan and drink, eat, sleep, play and ride your passion. •Be a social animal first and then try to be an entrepreneur, which would help you to intertwine the social issues and causes with your business fundamentals, thereby making a strong, viable plan. Most of us dream to be entrepreneurs; however, for the majority it is basically our thought process which restricts us to give it a try. Gradually this mindset fades away, giving way to something which is easier and simpler. Moreover, the opportunity offered by a globalized and booming economy like India is the perfect icing on the cake. It all depends how bold one can become in shaping up one’s dreams into reality.
