FILSCAP or Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Inc., the country’s biggest Collective Management Organization and primary enforcer of composers’ rights recently partnered with ArtisKo, a Cebu-grown organization of artists, musicians and entrepreneurs, in staging the first-ever Visayan Pop Songwriting Contest or VisPop 2013. From the overwhelming number of entries, three(3) emerged as winners of the VisPop Finals Night held last May 18, 2013 at Benedicto College Artist Hall, Cebu City. Third Place went to love birds Kyle Wong and Marianne Dungog for the song “Balay Ni Mayang.” Second Place went to UP Cebu Business Management student Lourdes Maglinte for the song “Laylay”. Grand prize went to siblings Jewel and Joe Villaflores. Judges that night were DTI Provincial Director, Nelia F. Navarro, folk singer-composer and FILSCAP President, Noel Cabangon, FILSCAP Board of Trustee and singer-composer, Gary Granada and singer-actress, Ana Fegi. VisPop aspires to cultivate the astonishing talent of Cebuano songwriters and celebrate the grandeur of the Cebuano language.
