Dalhousie's Old World Charm

Business,Travel & Tourism
Dalhousie is located at an altitude of 2036m in the Himalayan ranges of Himachal Pradesh – probably the most beautiful state of India. This quaint hill station is a must visit for anybody travelling to Himachal with a Himachal Travel Package.

The small town is spread out over the five hills of Kathlog, Potreys, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun and till date is reminiscent of the colonial charm that used to characterize the days of the Raj. How closely the town’s present is still intertwined with the echoes of the British past is proved by the name of the hill town itself. Since it was popular with the Army personnel in the 1860’s the town was name after the 19th century British Governor General – Lord Dalhousie.

Today, Dalhousie is a definite stop for all those visiting Himachal while on a Himachal Holiday Package. The natural beauty of the hills is spectacular thanks to result of the variety of vegetation abounding here because of the varying altitude of the town. Stately groves of pines, oaks and deodars coexist with colourful patches of flowering blood-red rhododendron bushes. The gentle slopes, verdant valleys and amazing views from various spots in and around Dalhousie are usually included in the Himachal Tour Packages of the town. You must include trips to the following spots to enjoy Nature’s beauty –

Panjpulla- Named after the five small bridges located here – it is an extremely scenic spot with sprakling mountain streams gushing past from beneath these very bridges. Make sure you carry your camera and take back shots of the spot to show your friends and family back home. The Samadhi of sardar Ajit Singh – uncle of the famous freedom fighter Shadeed Bhagat Singh is an added attraction here.

Satdhara – this is another picturesque spot nearby and has a small fresh water spring.

Bakrota Hills – At a distance of 5 kms from Dalhousie, Bakrota offers the most astounding views of the snow clad peaks of the Dhauladhar range in the distance. Take a brisk walk here along the many marked trails and enjoy the beauty of nature it all its glory.

Kalatope- Situated 10 kms away from Dalhousie, Kalatope gives the tourists beautiful views of the countryside and the Chamba valley. This is a wildlife sanctuary and has some great picnic spots. Include a picnic basket while you go on this trip on your Himachal Holiday Packages.

Dainkund - It is 10 km from Dalhousie. On a clear day this tall peak (2745 m) affords a birds eye-view of the hills, verdant valleys and the Beas, Ravi and Chenab rivers threading their silvery passage down to the plains.

Rich in colonial architecture, the town preserves some beautiful churches. So if you are interested in some history while on your Himachal Holiday take in the following sights. – St. John church is the oldest one built in 1863, St. Francis was built in 1894, St. Andrew in 1903 and St. Patric in 1909.

Apart from this, Subash Baoli – the site of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s retreat in 1937 is also a popular tourist attraction. And Bara Pathar at a distance of 4 km from Dalhousie, enroute Kalatope, has a temple dedicated to a local diety Bhulwani Mata. Stop by to pay your respects.
