Holland Park Tube Smoke Conclusions

Home Improvement
A few days ago the tube station in Holland Park was full of smoke and panicked people. The reason is unknown and the investigation continues. The common sense says "there is no smoke without fire". No one was hurt that day and all passengers escaped safely but the questions remain. What happened? Certain number of people thought it was a terrorist attack. The citizens of London live in fear. When we have to react fast and focused, we panic instead. The stress factors coming from mass media aren't doing any good to us. We are still unable to react properly and in a real alert situation, we are incapable of adequate reactions. This time we got lucky and no one was hurt but it's clear a change is needed. We must be less focused on news about bombs, terrorists, assassinations and try harder to be actually prepared for emergency situations. If all these people from the video (youtube.com/watch?v=9UmzucFNwmk) knew what to do, there would be less stress and they would have escaped faster.

What should we do if a fire breaks out?

All the fire fighters, consultants and safety advocates repeat the same phrase - keep calm and do not panic. The most important piece of safety measurement we should be aware of is this. If we lose our cool state of mind, we will probably be hurt.

Evacuate all the people from the building. No piece of art or money is more expensive than people's lives. Get all people out first!

If the fire blazes in another room, try to turn off all the electricity inside the house or the apartment. Never put off fire with water without turning the electricity down.

Call 112 (the international emergency number for the EU). The fire brigade should be on their way while you try to tame the flames yourself.

If you have a fire extinguisher use it. If you don't have one, use a blanket. Unfortunately, there are situations which are out of our control. When the flames are already too big we should close the doors and try to supply less air to the fire.

TIP: never put your life at risk. If you have concerns you'd better play safe.

Once the fire down, make sure to stay awake during the night because it'll most probably start again in 2 or 3 hours. The inside of the wood is still burning and this is where the fire will probably start again.

The cleaning after a fire is the next step. We have flakes of soot to clean, carpets are soaking wet, the whole house smells terrible. At this point we should decide to throw away some of our books and furniture. No matter how important they are for us, burnt they are worthless now. Move forward and get rid of them.

Holland Park carpet cleaners can be helpful for the carpets. This will bear most of the damage and will need a lot of cleaning and drying. The professionals have the needed solutions and will remove the smells, the scoots, the water and the stains from the carpet. Some carpet cleaners will even take the rug with them and clean it outside which will allow you to deal with the rest of tidying calmly. Once it is all done, bring the carpets back.

Fires like the one in the tube will always appear, the most important thing is to be prepared and to act adequately. This way no one will be hurt.
