“If your entire sense of morality and right and wrong is derived from today’s pop-culture trends – you are probably on a direct path to hell.” Anon In a visit to a state fair in Minnesota evangelist Bradlee Dean’s ministry booth came under attack from a local TV station acting on information taken from the Southern Poverty Law Center which labeled him and his ministry a hate group. The attack is typical of the LGBT, the SPLC and similar groups who seem to think that labeling people as haters or worse is their particular calling or stock in trade. While the practice of labeling people as haters is itself hateful, its philosophical premise is also junk pop-culture nonsense. It is silly to think that anyone who disagrees with certain behavior or a higher moral standard is a hater. Mothers tell their young when they are wrong, courts tell the criminals when they are wrong, teachers tell their students when they are wrong, et al. Are they all haters? Morality derived from a consensus of opinion is already highly suspect. The moral math is easy. “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment.” (Ex 23: 2) Those of today who do follow the crowd into the new morality (no morality) are no different than those of the first century. Sometimes called the ‘Body Snatchers’ in theological circles, the Nicolaitaines invaded the early churches of Pergamos and Ephesus. They taught people that it was OK to eat meat offered to idols and even worse they encouraged licentious behaviors of every kind They caused many of the early believers to leave the church and live exactly like everyone in the world around them. They literally, snatched them out of the church, but today the movement leaves them in the church and rips out the foundational doctrines of the church, thus we have what is known as the last day’s apostasy. These people like their modern counterparts’ were tired of being told by true believers that ‘they were loved but their behavior was not.’ Yet, it was Jesus Christ who set the example. He clearly announced that he hated their deeds, but never claimed that he hated them. Why would he - he was both their creator and redeemer – he was trying to draw them in, not cast them off. “But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.” (Rev 2: 6) Modern Nicolaitaines insist that God has changed his tune and now accepts their prurient behavior, but it is not so. The same warning given to the ancient Body Snatchers applies to their modern counterparts. To wit: “Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.” (Rev 2: 16) What has changed? The LGBT and SPLC and atheists are throwing the ‘hate’ label around like a PC anti-personnel device and the weak are either running for cover or giving in to the apostasy and allowing them into the fold. Both the church and the modern Nicolaitaines need to be aware that time is not on their side. Dr. R. G. Lee’s famous sermon ‘Pay Day – Someday’ is careening down the road at breakneck speed like a roaring train and will according to every last day’s prophecy be here in very short time. What happens to the modern Nicolaitaines when this train reaches its destination? The same one, who called them to repent, describes what will happen if they do not. Is this hate? Don’t delude or flatter yourself, warning them against the inevitability of judgment, is not hate – it is the purest form of love. If the Apostle Paul reminds us that the enforcement arm of civil government does not bear the sword in vain, (Ro 13: 4) what would cause us to believe that the one who bears the two edged sword of final judgment will never actually use it? “And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
