The FA Cup is the oldest association football competition in the world. In 1872, Wanderers Football Club won the first title in the history of FA Cup football. The record for the most wins is held by Manchester United with 11 triumphs, followed by Arsenal with 10 and Tottenham Hotspur with 8. The FA Cup is held by Wigan Athletic, who defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the 2013 final. FA Cup Football in the 1930s Many teams were regularly in the FA Cup Finals of the 1930s. Arsenal played three finals. The Gunners won two and lost one. Portsmouth, Manchester City, Preston and West Bromwich Albion all played two finals, winning one and losing one. FA Cup finals at Wembley Stadium were well attended in the 1930s. No Final had fewer than 92,000 spectators. The 1939 Final between Portsmouth and Wolves was the most popular game with 99.370 spectators. Club of the decade: Arsenal Football Club was founded in 1886. The Gunners lost 1-0 against Cardiff in the 1927 FA Cup Final at Wembley stadium. Three years later they were back at Wembley as winners. Arsenal defeated Huddersfiled 2-0 and won their first FA Cup. Two years later they lost to Newcastle in the Final but in the 1936 Final they were winners again. Arsenal won 1-0 against Sheffield United Player of the decade: Ted Drake scored the only goal when Arsenal defeated Sheffield in the 1936 Final. Drake was a great goal scorer. To this day he holds the record for the most goals scored in the history of first division football in England, scoring seven goals against Aston Villa in December 1935. Arsenal won that game at Villa Park 7-1. With 139 goals in 184 games, Drake is fifth all-time scorer for The Gunners. However, he has better goal average than the number one on the list Thierry Henry (0.755 goals per game vs. 0.606 goals per game).
