Cooking is something that has to be done; however, it could be a very fun hobby to begin. We can all learn how to enjoy cooking if we know some of the good advice that makes it a pleasure and not a chore. You will find in the following article some helpful advice on how to make you a better cook.

When you are baking pastry crusts, try increasing the cooking time a bit. They need to be a golden caramel color rather than pale blonde. This deeper color is evidence that the sugar has caramelized in the crust for added sweetness.

Before eating there is cooking, and before cooking there is preparation. This is a vital step to master if you want to produce impressive meals. First, check that you have everything you need to get started. It is not too much to get your meals ready the day before. Make sure you have the necessary utensils. Did you think of everything? This process will reduce your stress level and help manifest a more positive outcome.

If you are going to make a stir-fry dish, slice the meat on the bias, as thinly as possible. This can sometimes be a tricky undertaking and very time-consuming. Remove the meat when it is firm (but not frozen) and slice at a 45 degree angle across the grain of the meat.

To slice meat with ease, you should place it in the freezer for a bit. This technique is particularly good for meats served in Asian cuisine. Uncooked meat is easier to cut when it is partially frozen. A word of caution, allow meat to completely thaw prior to cooking. This will ensure even cooking of your meat.

Eat a piece of meat when experimenting with seasoning before cooking all of it. Particularly meats such as ground beef will need to be seasoned carefully. You should not cook the whole dish after it has been seasoned. You should make a small patty first. You can then cook the entire piece, or change the seasoning as needed.

When you are cooking an important dinner you want to whip up something you know how to cook well. Refrain from enthusiastically whipping up a new dish or using untested ingredients. Avert a stressful experience and enjoy the occasion.

Has it ever seemed like you were wasting food when you threw away fruits that were moldy? Is it possible to save the fruit by cutting the bad part out of it? Sadly, there is really no safe method for using fruit that is partially rotten. Throw the fruit away as mold can grow beyond just what the eye can see, which could end up making you sick.

By doing this, you can have fresh fruit all year! Plus, you will have fruits which are not available during certain periods of the year.

Tomatoes can be easily dried. Drying them is easy - simply cut Roma tomatoes in half, or cut larger tomatoes into 1/2 inch slices. Set them on a rack cut side up and sprinkle lightly with salt. Next, the tomatoes need to spend about 10 hours in an oven set to 190 degrees. Put a cookie sheet under the rack before it goes in. You can store your dried tomatoes in a plastic bag in the freezer. Another option is to store dried tomatoes in a jar that contains fresh, flavorful herbs and olive oil. Tomatoes stored in this fashion will last for two weeks in the refrigerator.

Cooking isn't just about getting food to the table. It can be a delicious, fun activity. You might make a few mistakes, but if you apply the information laid out here, mistakes won't happen as often. Put these ideas to use in the kitchen and you'll be cooking up a storm in no time at all.
