You are allowed to take wine back with you in your luggage, but most of the wines in SA you can find back home since the USA is a substantial portion of the export market. Also, the delightful taste of a 2006 Cederberg Shiraz at unbelievably cheap prices usually results in copious amounts of alcohol consumption amongst some students. Remember, you are abroad. That means you will do things that seem funny/different to other people, and you may very well stand out without realizing it. Please be aware of this difference and be respectful of others differences along the way. You do not need to compare everything that is different to America. Try to just experience it, recognize that difference without judging it, and go with the flow.
