CAIRO – Hosni Mubarak's health entered a "dangerous" phase on Wednesday, and doctors had to administer oxygen five times to help the deposedEgyptian leader breathe, according to security officials at hisprison. Mubarak's health crisis came days after he was sentenced to life inprison for failing to stop the killing of protesters in theuprising that unseated him last year. The officials at Torah prison south of Cairo said Mubarak, 84, wassuffering from shock and high blood pressure as well as breathingproblems. Specialists were called in to examine him, and a transferto a military hospital was being considered, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were notauthorized to speak to reporters.
It was not immediately possible to independently verify the gravityof Mubarak's condition. Mubarak did not want to go to Torah after he was sentenced onSaturday, pleading with his escort to take him back to the militaryhospital east of Cairo where he had stayed in a suite since histrial began in August. He was held in a hospital in his favoriteRed Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh from the time of his arrest inApril last year until August. Mubarak was sentenced to life on Saturday, but he and his two sons— one-time heir apparent Gamal and wealthy businessman Alaa— were acquitted of corruption charges.
The sons are alsobeing held in Torah, awaiting a separate trial on charges ofinsider trading. The officials said prison authorities were allowing Gamal to be byhis father's side. Alaa also applied for permission, but it has notyet been granted, the officials said. Though Mubarak's authoritarian regime was widely unpopular by thetime of his overthrow last year, conditions in Egypt havedeteriorated since then, with a wave of deadly protests, a batteredeconomy and seemingly endless strikes. Some evidence of displeasure over conditions could be seen in thesecond-place finish by Mubarak's last prime minister, Ahmed Shafiq,in the first round of presidential elections last month, ahead ofmore liberal candidates.
Shafiq is facing Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi in arunoff election June 16-17, but it could still be called off. A spokesman for Egypt's highest court said it would look intowhether a "political exclusion" law is constitutional on June 14,two days before the runoff. The law bans senior officials whoserved in Mubarak's regime starting in 2001 from running foroffice. It applies to prime ministers, vice presidents and seniormembers of Mubarak's now-dissolved ruling party. If upheld, it could mean that Shafiq could not run — possiblyforcing cancellation of the runoff and a repeat of the first round.
Quoted by Egypt's official news agency, the spokesman, Maher Sami, did not say whether the Supreme Constitutional Court will issue itsverdict on the same day. Sami, however, said the court's expertshave prepared their report on the law, suggesting that a June 14ruling is likely. "The court is responsive to public issues, and that is why it israpidly working to settle the case, but it is difficult to tell nowwhether a verdict will be announced on June 14," Sami told TheAssociated Press in a brief telephone interview. Also to be considered by the court on June 14, according to Sami,is a finding by a lower tribunal that ruled against the law thatregulated recent parliamentary elections.
If the decision is upheld by the higher court, the elections wouldbe declared illegal, and the Islamist-dominated parliament would bedissolved. I am an expert from Fashion Accessories, usually analyzes all kind of industries situation, such as pearl hair comb , hair side combs.
