Nowadays, a lot of people are opting to immigrate to Canada for a number of reasons such as better medical schemes, fresh environment, comfortable living, higher standard of living etc. People who are interested in immigrating to Canada may have a lot of questions in mind, for instance, how they should apply for Canadian immigration and the like. There are 4 classes which allow you to apply for it viz. the skilled worker class, business class, family class and temporary visas. 1. Skilled worker class/Points system: Most of the people apply under this class, since the point system allows one to have a better understanding of their strengths and gives them more opportunity to work on their weaknesses. Under this, there are various categories such as work experience (maximum 21 points), education (maximum 25 points), language abilities (maximum 24 points), adaptability (maximum 10 points), age (maximum 10 points), and arranged employment (maximum 10 points). A minimum of 67 points are required to pass. One may get additional points for a relative in Canada, or previous studying experience in any Canadian university, partners qualifications etc. 2. Business Class: Under business class immigration, there are three subdivisions – investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed. For applying as an investor, you must at least have a net worth of $80,000 Canadian dollars (your spouse’s assets may be included). As an entrepreneur, one must have had business experience – it is compulsory for one to have managed a business and controlled a percentage of a qualifying business for at least 2 years in the beginning and must be able to provide full-time employment to at least one Canadian citizen, within three years of being in Canada. He should also have a net worth of at least $30,000. For applying as a self-employed, one must be able to provide a proper business plan with sufficient capital. 3. Family class: Under this class, a Canadian citizen can propose to sponsor his/her relative, who wants to immigrate to Canada. The relative should either be a Permanent Resident (PR) or should hold Canadian passport. There is Spousal Sponsorship, in which one’s spouse, conjugal partner or common-law partner may be sponsored by the PR/citizen. Under Parent and Grandparent Super Visa, one is allowed to bring ones parents and grandparents with a multi-entry visa for 10 years for them. Provincial Family Class Sponsorship allows you to bring your family to Canada; this is different for different provinces and comes under Provincial Nomination Programs. One may bring a dependent child, adopted children, orphaned sister, brother, niece, nephew or grandchild under Dependent Child and other sponsorship. In extreme cases, other family members may also be sponsored. 4. Temporary Visas: Students who wish to study in a Canadian University, or work as temporary foreign workers, may apply under this class. The workers must be able to show a job offer which was not availed by or given to a Canadian. The work permit is issued for a time period, which usually does not exceed three years. Most of the times, the temporary workers have been given a transfer for some time, and still hold their native county’s passport.
