ISO (International Organization for Standardization), the world's largest organization formed in 1947, is the developer of the International standards for various aspects like business, technology, food safety, agriculture, healthcare, etc. With over 19, 500 established standards like ISO 9001 - Quality Management Systems, ISO 31000 - Risk Management System, ISO 14001 - Environmental Management System, ISO 22000 - Food Safety Management System, ISO 27001 - Information Security Management System, ISO 50001 - Energy Management System, ISO has its impact in every possible sector in the world. International Organization for Standardization (ISO), formulates these standards and updates them regularly according to the advancements in related sectors, but does not involve in any certification process. There are hundreds of certification agencies or independent third parties, performing the ISO Certification Process for any organization. An organization full filling the standards is surely to develop good quality products and services thereby improving its sales. Of the various ISO standards ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 are the major ones.ISO 9001 deals with the Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001 Certification with the Environmental Management Systems. Every organization or company, for obtaining an ISO certificate, approaches the best ISO certification body in their locality. Depending upon the standard for certification like ISO 14001 or ISO 9001 or ISO 27001, the agencies, perform the certification process. Generally the process involves three steps – Pre-Assessment Audit In-depth Analysis A Follow-up Reassessment The Pre-Assessment audit involves an auditor visiting the company and generating non-conformances report. The auditor assists the company in resolving the NCRs and finalizing the audit documentations. The agencies, after approving the closure of NCRs, issue the ISO certificate and perform regular follow-up re-assessment audits, for a 3 years’ time period, to verify if the company complies with the current version of ISO standards. When a company approaches any ISO Certification Body for obtaining any certificate like ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 or ISO 27001, the certification body performs certain audits and checks if the company adheres to the current version of the standard. Generally, an auditor from the certification body visits the company and generates a non-conformances report, if any. The company, with the assistance of the auditor, resolves the NCRs and finalizes the documentations of the audit. The certification body, verifies with the NCRs are resolved approving the closure and issues the ISO Certification for the company. The certification body performs regular re-assessment auditors for a span of 3 years to check if the company complies with the ISO standards.
