So apparently we only use around 10% of our little noggins. How can that really be true ? Does that really mean that someone like Steve Jobs or Albert Einstein only used 10% ? Or 20% ? I don't know but it sounds a little fishy to me. That must mean there is a ceiling to what we can achieve then ? I don't see how we could ever know that. How do we define what our full potential is anyway ? But I do think that a lot of us could benefit from pushing ourselves more, working smarter not harder, chasing your dreams and helping other people out. Have a think about these 5 steps and see if you can't get yourself into a different way of thinking. 1) Set Goals Now I know I have gone over setting goals before, but they are an integral part of our life. Not every goal has to be to learn how to fly a plane or pull the only 10 in the club, setting small goals or tasks should be part of your everyday schedule. For me I try to give myself at least 1-3 tasks a day, whether it's an email I have to send or phone call I have to make or whatever. It doesn't have to be something huge, just something that is going to bring you closer to what you want to have achieved by the end of the day/week/month/year/decade(?). 2) Start Habits Usually all you hear or read about is breaking a habit and stopping it, but how about starting one ? This takes time, studies say around the 3 week mark. To make a habit stick I believe you need to start off small and consistently. If you want to start going to the gym 4 days a week start off with 2. Then the next week do 2 again, then 3 for another 2 weeks. By the end of the month you will be more inclined to be going 4 times a week. Getting a friend in on something like this helps heaps too. Start writing down your habit to be, on post it notes and stick them around the house so you can be reminded several times everyday. 3) What Is Your Burning Desire ? What gets you excited ? What makes you jump out of bed on the weekend ? Do more of it. Get better at it. Think of a way you could make a living from it. I believe if you feel happy, and you are happy then your much more prepared to be able to make other people happy. How can you make someone else happy if your miserable ? I don't think it's selfish to do things that make YOU EXCITED TO BE ALIVE if your going to be able to help out other people out to do the same. 4) Your Future Self Where do you want to be in 5 years ? 10 years ? This is sure fire way to give yourself a kick in the butt if you think of how old your going to be in this time. If your goal is to be retired at 40 but your 33 now, and your still putting off how your going to make this happen, then you should be doing something about it NOW ! Not tomorrow ! 5) Don't Compare Yourself To Others This one is real important. You are who you are. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes it's better to just stop trying to fix all your weaknesses and focus on your strengths and make them even better. Compare yourself to people that you are ahead of (not in a 'I'm better than you' kind of way of course), not to people that are ahead of you. Everyone is at different stages in their lives doing different things at different times. You don't need to compete with anyone. Use YOURSELF as your benchmark. Keep moving forward, keep chipping away, take steps everyday to bring you closer to what you want in life. Only you can help you.
