Quality Control- The advent of CNC machining means that the process is largely automated, but that doesn’t mean that a machinist’s work can be replaced by the machine. An machinist needs to operate the machinery and ensure that every finished piece meets rigid specifications and standards. The finished product must be constantly scrutinized which includes a lot of taking measurements and performing tests. Maintenance- If the machines aren’t working properly obviously they can’t do their jobs, so machine maintenance is imperative. CNC operators must maximize the output of a machine by listening to how the machine runs and checking for variations. The operator is responsible for checking for machine errors and either fixing it themselves or getting it fixed by a mechanic. Loading- Raw materials must be fed into the machine so it can do it’s job. When it is finished the product needs to be unloaded from the machine as well. After loading the operator must start up the machine also.
