Chardham is a worth exploring Hindu expedition which has a huge religious significance and is counted among one of the most honored pilgrimages of Hindus. It comprises of four religious destinations namely Badrinath, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Yamunotri. Badrinath: Abode of lord Vishnu in his form of Badrinarayan. Gangotri: Residence of goddess Ganga and source of river Ganga. Kedarnath: Counted among one of the jyotirlingas and a place where a figure of lord Shiva venerated Yamunotri: Source of river Yamuna and home of goddess Yamuna. Badrinath: It is a sacred town and a Nagar Panchayat in Chamoli, Uttarakhand and is the most prior pilgrimages of Hindus incurred in Char Dham. The marvelous shrine has got its name from the blessed temple nested in the place. Positioned at a height of 3, 100 meters, it can be seen in the Garhwal Himalayas on the shores of Alaknanda River. The destination is a divine tour trail for Vaishnavites and is also a gateway to innumerable mountain adventures done on the mountains like Nilkantha. As per Bhagavata Purana, the ultimate being (Vishnu) is experiencing immense penance in his personified form of sages Nara and Narayana for the salvation of mankind and living entities, the literal meaning of Badrinath has been derived from Badri i.e. berry and Nath mean "Lord of" The blessed temple is a key attraction of the place and as per the folklores guru Shankarachraya found a black stone figure of Badrinarayan carved out of Saligram stone in Alaknanda River. Originally, the statue was kept in a cave besides Tapt Kund hot springs but the emperor of Ghariwal moved it to the place where the present temple is in sixteenth century. Gangotri: This is a beautiful town in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand and a Nagar Panchayat (municipality). Situated on Greater Himalayan Range, it is located at an altitude of 3, 100m below the place of origin of river Ganga on banks of the river Bhagirathi. The amazing shrine is devoted to goddess Ganga and tallied among the landscapes of Char Dham. It is believed that the actual Gangotri shrine was constructed by a general of Gurkha Amar Singh Thapa. Gangotri Glacier is source of the sanctified river and originates from Gaumukh which is 19 km away from temple. As per the mythological beliefs, goddess Ganga personified here taking the form of river Ganga to offer salvation to the ancestors of emperor Bhagiratha. Kedarnath: Posed at Uttarakhand, the pleasant place got fame from its magnificent temple and is a Nagar Panchayat at Rudraprayag. It is situated in Himalayan ranges at a height of 3,583 m above sea level and is said to be one among the four shrines in Chardham. The striking landscape is edged with mesmerizing snow-covered peak. During 2013, the floods in Kedarnath due to torrential rains formed a massive damage to this consign. The name of this destination has been kept in honour of King Kedar, who reigned in Satya Yuga. Due to excess of snowfall, this sacred shrine opens on Akshaya Tritiya (April end or first week of May) whereas it closes down on Bhai Duj (October end or 1st week of November). Yamunotri: The source and abode of river goddess is nested at an altitude of 3, 293 metres in Uttarakashi. It is the west-most shrine in Ghariwal Mountain and has a huge religious significance for Hindus. The beautiful Yamunotri is balanced on the top of an edge of Bandar Poonch Parvat and also has hot water springs in which even the rice and potatoes can be cooked easily.
