It is difficult for young people to sit still. They need to be active; they must move. Learning by doing harnesses their energy and their need to be involved. It can be quite an exhausting task coming up with a new youth group program. It's even harder trying to be creative with how you run your youth group gathering so it remains fresh and yet faithful to your theology, values and principles. When planning activities for children, remember the younger the child, the shorter the attention span, especially if they have been in school all day. Emphasize activities that would be in a doing mode rather than a sitting quiet mode. Include projects that require activity especially repetitive physical activity. Plan a lot of activities so you move quickly from one subject or activity to another. Plan at least a month of youth group meetings and activities -- and preferably three to six months -- before you even announce that you will be starting a youth group. Games are a great way to get things going during a get-together. There are plenty of outrageous games that make teens laugh and icebreakers that allow students to get to know one another. A fun game at the start of the program can make even skeptical student come back to find out more. Ideally, youth group meetings should include a fun activity and a lesson. Youth groups provide opportunities for members to grow and learn while working toward a common goal. While many teen youth groups are affiliated with churches, a religious tone isn't necessary. Most activities for a teen youth group support the mission of the group and help members gain a better sense of community. There are many methods of teaching children. The least receptive method is the lecture method where children are only listening and not participating in their learning. As seeing and doing are added, the effectiveness is increased. Choose subjects and teaching methods so that the children will have fun while they are learning and doing. Keep the activities light and informal. There are various activities that the youth can do especially during the summer. These activities for youth groups can help them in developing their personalities, talents, and skills. Teens often get caught up in comparing themselves to one another. Spending time with smaller kids is one way to help them relax and just have fun. The mentor relationship benefits both parties. The young partner gets one-on-one time with someone he can look up to. The teen gains a sense of fulfillment and gets to be a kid again. Establish guidelines for the mentor relationship, which might include the frequency and type of meetings and the length of the relationship. The teens might help the younger child with homework or just spend time together. During summer, many youth groups often go to the beach. Group games can be played on the beach like volleyball, basketball, and many other games that the group wants to play. The games can help in improving team work and the confidence of each individual. There are still other activities for youth groups aside from group games in beautiful beaches. All the members of the youth group can conduct a clean and green project in a certain area. They can do tree planting or simply clean the surroundings. The people of the neighborhood will surely be happy that the group is helping in maintaining the clean surroundings. Remember, successful activities don’t just happen, the are planned. Have a clear idea of what you want to do, what you want to teach the children during the activity time and list materials that will be needed for the activities.
