How To Increase Blog Traffic Part 1 of 3

How To Increase Blog Traffic Part 1 of 3

You have probably been told that it is easy to build a Blog. Well I can tell you that it is, once you know what you are doing. On the other hand you may have also been told that generating quality targeted traffic to your Blog on a consistent basis, is hard. Well, I'm about to scupper that knowledge and show you 6 simple ways that you can use TODAY to start generating a consistent flow of quality targeted traffic to your Blog whatever niche you happen to be in.

Just follow these simple steps and you will soon find thousands of unique targeted visits on your Blog EVERY DAY!

How To Increase Blog Traffic Part 1 of 3.

Step #1 - You Want Your Content Easily and Readily Shared.

You need to understand how much your audience is likely to share your content. Some of your readers will want to share naturally, some may not immediately think of sharing your content, but either way the more engaging and useful your content is to your target market, the more likely your readers will share it amongst their friends and acquaintances.

So firstly, make sure your content addresses the issues your target market are looking to solve, and secondly ensure your Blog provides more than enough opportunity for sharing by presenting easy ways in which your reader can do this, for example:

a). Facebook like and send buttons. b). Twitter Tweet and Retweet Buttons. c). RSS Feed Buttons.

There are many plug-ins you can use for these options which present the buttons in places where your readers will see them regularly.

Step #2 - Go to Places Online Where Your Audience Already is and Take Part in The Conversations!

Thankfully, with advent of the internet, you don't need to spend a dime to figure out where a large section of your target market can be found, and in actuality you probably already know some other Blogs, forums, and/or social media communities where discussions and content are being regularly posted on the topic of your niche anyway. (if not just use good ol' Google to do a simple search)

Then from your list, you can easily do some ad expansion using The Google Display Planner:

Then you can start participating in the discussions. But don't just jump in, read what others have said before you post your response. Once you get a feel for the conversations you'll soon know what is appropriate or not. Take a look at this article for more info on Blog comment marketing.

Just remember to be a good internet citizen. Do not link-drop, spam or troll as you will soon find yourself kicked out and banned anyways. However, follow the rules and you will be rewarded with good quality targeted traffic to your Blog.

Step #3 - Make Sure Your Blog is Optimised for Traffic.

Most Bloggers simply don't take advantage correctly of search engine traffic. Usually it is ignored due to fear or lack of understanding (sometimes speed or the lack of it is used as an excuse as well) But there is tremendous value in taking advantage of this traffic, and these days SEO for blogs is both simple and easy to set up, particularly if you're using an SEO-friendly platform like Wordpress.

Finally for this step, don't let poor experiences with spammers (spam is not SEO) ruin the amazing power and SEO makes to your blog's traffic. 20% of your effort and the tactics to make your content optimized for the search engines will yield you approx 80% of the value:

So make sure you embrace it wholeheartedly, and thousands of visitors seeking exactly what you've got will be your reward.

Step #4 - Install Google Analytics and Attend to the Results.

At the very least, you need to know where your best traffic sources are. Therefore if I was only going to recommend one plug-in for your Blog it would have to be Google Analytics (which is free). But don't make the mistake that I see thousands of bloggers make every day, and that is to NOT use it. Because quite simply there all sorts of great and very useful bits of info to be gleaned by looking at your traffic stats.

For example: by analyzing how your visits where originated and then understanding and being able to repeat again and again, enables you to focus on the high quality traffic sources and put less effort into the non-effective methods you might be using.

So, employing Google analytic's on your Blog is absolutely essential to knowing where you're succeeding, and where you have more opportunity to improve, because as the saying goes, if you can measure it, you can improve it.

Step #5 - Add Images to Your Blog Posts.

When posting content on your Blog, make sure you intersperse the text with related images. Make sure your image title is the keyword(s) you are trying to rank for, and also make sure your alt text is as well.

You can upload your images direct to your Blog or you can upload to hosting sites such as Flickr. If you use a third-party service like Flickr to embed your images with licensing requirements, you can create another traffic source for yourself via Image Search, and quite often can massively improve the engagement and enjoyment of your Blog visitors.

A few words of caution here though, when using images direct from the internet make sure you are not infringing any copyright requirements. When doing an image search on Google you can usually see any copyright info in the small print of the image when you click on it.

Still on the subject of images, I have a clever way in which you can get traffic that ordinarily you would never see. You can do this by creating a way for others to use YOUR images (only ones you have created yourself in this instance) on their own sites legally and with your permission, AND, more importantly in a way that benefits YOU as the image creator.

A great way (easy as well) for you to do this is to have a notice under your image indicating that re-using is OK, but for those who do use it, they should link back directly to your Blog or Blog post. You could also add into your Blogs privacy Policy and T's & C's. Anywhere really where you can give maximum exposure.

However, unfortunately some people will use your images without permission and therefore without backlinking, and although this is completely unethical you can use it to your advantage in another clever little traffic generation method.

You see, because you can find them by using Google's "similar images," function, which will show you other images that Google thinks look like yours or similar, you can quite often uncover new sources of traffic. All you need to do is reach out and ask if you can get a link, nicely. You will be pleasantly surprised to know that in most cases, not only will you get your link, but you may also make a valuable contact or new friend as well!

Step #6 - Write Your Posts and Do Keyword Research at The Same Time.

When writing a blog post, keyword research is best utilized for the title and headlines and sub-headlines of the post. For example, if I wanted to write a post on my Blog about how to generate leads for Network Marketing, I might write something that uses the phrase "leads for network marketing" or "network marketing leads" in my title and headline, as in "How to Generate Leads for Network Marketing" or "Network Marketing Leads on a Budget"."

As you can imagine, a huge part of showing up in any online search is targeting the terms and phrases your target market is typing into the search engines, and of course it's very hard to find what these words are and are likely to be, without doing some research, but luckily for us there is a free tool from Google called Keyword Planner which you can use for FREE by opening up a FREE Google Adword account.

The really good news is that you don't need me to instruct you on how to use this tool as Google gives great training with loads of tutorials to make sure you make full use of the power of Keyword Research.

So that's it for Part 1 of this 3 part series on How To Increase Blog Traffic, keep your eyes open in the next few days for Part 2.

All the best -Jon
