Assembly Elections in MP: Who is going to be the forerunner on December 8, 2013? Many readers must have found the request itself to be humorous. L K Advani has special interest in the assembly elections in this state as his favourite subordinate and the present CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan is all prepared to register a third time straight win for himself as well as for BJP in the state assembly elections due on November 25, 2013. Mr. Advani reportedly wanted BJP to announce the name of Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate sometime after the assembly elections in the five states get over. Given Advaniji’s stature and experience not only in BJP but also in National Politics, his apprehensions will be put to test during November – December this year. Shivraj singh Chauhan has been extremely cautious and is playing his cards close to himself to to retain his image of a secular leader and is keeping a calculated distance from Namo until the assembly elections are over. Congress had many Chief Ministerial aspirants in the state. With Rahul Gandhi entrusting the job with Jyotiraditya Scindia, all the other leaders in the state including former Chief minister Digvijay Singh have demonstrated a lot of cohesiveness among each other and are now singing in one tune. Scindia is definitely working on some magic formula and has convinced everyone that he has the potential and the ability to dethrone Mr. Chauhan in the forthcoming assembly elections due this month. Shivraj singh Chauhan has a long list of credentials in the form of development work that he has done in the state. Some of them include expanding the road network from 15,000 km to 90,000 km, increasing the area under irrigation up to three times and also the power generation capacity in the state has seen an increase from 4,800 MW to 10,200 MW. He also has increased crop productivity level and industrial investment to add to his government’s credit in the last 10 years of BJP rule in the state. However, Congress has nullified these developments and are highlighting facts that Female Literacy Rate in the state is low at 60%, Infant Mortality Rate is 59 per thousand of births and the crime against women are alarming. They claim that all these are unfavorable as compared to the national average. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kantilal Bhuria and Kamal Nath have been camping in their respective areas where the statistics of wins and losses in the last assembly elections were equally poised between Congress and BJP. In the last assembly elections Mayawati-BSP took away 9% of the anti-BJP votes. This time they are not a very strong contender and with Uma Bharti sulking for being out of the state politics, last minute turning of the table has a possibility unless Voters have already decided to perceive Congress as a greater evil.
