The castle of the Napa Valley s Castello di Amorosa winery will behosting a screening next month of Pixar Animation Studio supcoming film Brave, which features the studio s first heroineas the lead role. The showing will take place June 9, and is expected to attract2,200 to 2,400 people, all of whom have worked on producing thefilm, said Audrey Hardy, the winery s vice president ofhospitality and events. The screening is not open to the public. The film is set to open intheaters June 22. Pixar has reserved blocks of hotel rooms for the guests inCalistoga, St. Helena, Yountville and Napa, up to 1,000 total,Hardy said. Some people will be staying in the valley over theweekend, while others are coming up from Pixar s studio inEmeryville. The event is predicted to generate up to $1 million in tourismrevenue for the Napa Valley, according to a Napa County staffreport. We re extremely excited to have them here, Hardy said. Itwill be a celebration of their work. Set in 10th century Scotland, the movie follows the teenagePrincess Merida as she seeks to rebel against the traditionalprincess role she s expected to assume. Several Pixar officials are members of the winery s wine club, andafter visiting the castle last year they felt it was a good placeto host the screening, Hardy said. Before the screening, traditional Scottish Highland games will beheld at the winery until the sun begins to set and it gets darkenough to start the movie on the winery s crush pad. The screening is scheduled to end at 10:30 p.m., and the eventwould move inside until it ends at 2 a.m. The event needed the Napa County Board of Supervisors to tweak thecounty s temporary event ordinance to allow it to occur. Theordinance lacked a category for film screenings; the board votedunanimously to direct planning staff to add that category Tuesday. Hardy said this will be the first screening the winery has had,although it s had movies filmed at the castle before. This really opens the door for local possibilities, Hardy said.
