RuneScape is a popular massively multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in a fantasy universe. Much as in a high fantasy novel, one of the game's most impressive challenges is to defeat a dragon. Like Saint George and other heroes of legend, many players set their sights on defeating these mythological beasts in the hopes of glory, experience and riches. Without the right defenses, however, your character's folly is likely to be remembered only in epitaph. When fighting dragons, the primary armor choices should be driven by two major concerns. You should choose the cheapest gear that will give you a reasonable chance of survival and you should select defensive gear that also augments offense. Given the risk of losing expensive gear, many players take a minimalist approach to fighting dragons, fighting without helms or rings. Often with dragon fighting, the best defense is a strong offense. Without having the right level of combat skill, gear makes little difference. You should make sure that your character level and offensive skill levels are commensurate to the level of the dragon you will fight. In "RuneScape, " defeating even a baby dragon can pose a deadly challenge, but not for the reasons you might think. Depending on the color of the dragon, babies range from level 48 to 78 and their abilities are not particularly significant. They don't even have a breath weapon. However, except for baby blue dragons, you will need to make your way past adults to fight them, meaning you have to have an anti-dragon shield to survive the experience. While most baby dragons can be engaged successfully with low cost melee gear, baby reds will require at least Runic gear to maximize your chance of survival. Chromatic (colored) dragons' biggest threat (aside from their breath weapon) is their ability to inflict high-damage melee strikes. For this reason, melee defensive armor is a must. However, there are a couple of important exceptions. Because of their location in the Wilderness, fighting green dragons invariably risks running into revenant ghosts. This requires choosing armor with high magical and melee defense. The Cape of Legends or God Cape as well as Black Dragonhide or Rune Platebody provide a nice combination of both defenses. Fighting red dragons of any age will require wearing Runic armor. For players who wish to face the ultimate dragon challenge, metallic dragons offer the greatest rewards and risks. To fight them, your gear must be high-tier. Equip Dragon boots if you have them or Rune boots if you do not. When combating lesser metallic dragons (such as bronze, iron and steel), warriors should wear quality melee defensive gear, including Dragonfire shields, the Skill Cape and Proselyte armor. Because mithril dragons wield both magic and physical damage with deadly skill, your gear must be attuned to defend against each threat equally.
