If you have a hunting crossbow then it is almost safe to say that you love hunting with a bow and arrow. It is also safe to say that you probably take very good care of your crossbow because these are worth more than chump change. Whether you are new to hunting with your crossbow or you have been in the sport for a while there a few tips that you should always follow. If you follow these tips then you can prolong the hunting lifespan of your crossbow. You will also make your next trip much more enjoyable and hopefully improve your success rate. The first thing that you need to make sure that you always do is to use a cocking device. Many of these crossbows have draw weights that are well above 150 pounds so pulling them back manually can easily wear you out during your hunt. While a cocking device does make your hunting excursions a lot more manageable on your body, the main reason that you want to use one is to help keep your shots consistent. When you pull the string up with your hands, it is almost impossible for you to pull it back in the same place, every time. If you have a cocking device, then that will ensure that you get consistency, thus helping you improve your accuracy. You should also make sure that you are taking great care of your strings. If the strings are affected in any way, then it could severely hinder your shot. I would recommend that you get yourself a crossbow case so that you prevent unneeded dirt from getting on your hunting crossbow. This dirt can cause friction and wear on the strings and will greatly affect their life span. You should also make sure that you are waxing your strings and lubing your rails every 75-100 shots to prolong your string life. Something that is constantly overlooked by people when they are shooting their hunting crossbow is that they need stable shooting placement. If your crossbow has rail then you are already in pretty good shape, but if you are shooting out of a tree stand or a hunting blind, then you should place the machine on a crossbow stand. This will greatly improve your efficiency in the field as well as your accuracy. Crossbows tend to be forward heavy a lot of the time, and while you may wield it like a gun, I can guarantee you that aiming it feels much different. The last tip that I can give you, is that you should always be shooting your crossbow. Many shooters put their bow down as soon as their particular season is over. If you make sure to continually shoot your hunting crossbow then your shot will almost certainly improve. Do not be “that guy” who brushes the cobwebs off his bow the week before his particular season is set to start. Take ownership of your machine and treat it as an extension of yourself and I am sure you will have a successful hunting season. Please also check our Pistol Crossbow for sale here.
