The habit of watching television can start early. Young children who watch excessive amounts of television may fall behind in developing fundamental cognitive and social skills. Are you looking for a way to encourage your young child to watch less television? Why not give him or her some blocks. Yes, plain old wonderful blocks can keep your child’s attention and help cut television watching time. A study out of the University of Washington in 2005 found that young children between the ages of 1.5 and 2.5 years were 80% less likely to watch television when they were given MEGA BLOKS. You may think that in this day and age the way to keep children entertained is with lots of lights, electronics, sounds and interactivity, but tried and true blocks never get old. Playing with blocks, especially with the participation of a parent, can help foster creativity and problem solving skills in young children.
