To manage a project effectively, there are nine project management knowledge areas which can be followed for effective project management. The nine project management knowledge areas fall under group 44 Project Management Processes. The nine project management knowledge areas are as follows: 1. Manage Project Integration: This phase involves handling observing and governing project work, change control, and project closure. It also deals with merging various facets of project management. 2. Manage Project Scope: This phase involves creating procedures to control project scope which involves Definition, Possibility, Planning, Authentication, and Control. 3. Manage Project Time: This phase deals with the ways to overcome the constraint factor of time related to the project. It involves activity characterization, grading, resource evaluation, duration evaluation, plan progress and control. 4. Manage Project Cost: This phase deals with the ways to overcome the constraint factor of cost related to the project. It involves Price Estimation, Accounting, and Control. 5. Manage Project Quality: This phase deals with the ways to overcome the constraint factor of quality. It involves Quality Planning, Quality Check and Quality Regulation. 6. Manage Project Human Resources: This phase deals with the ways to overcome the constraint factor of resource management and recruitment It involves Planning for Human Resource Management, formation of a team for the project, and managing different project’s teams by understanding the factors and challenges affecting their performance, and making arrangements to overcome the challenges. 7. Manage Project Communication: This phase deals with the ways to overcome the constraining factors in a project related to the lack of communication. It involves planning to ensure effective communication; methodologies to better performance and reporting, and Information Distribution. 8. Manage Project Risk: This phase deals with the ways to overcome the constraining factors in a project related to the risks involved in a project. It involves methodologies to observe and identify risks; appraisement of Qualitative and Quantitative risks and creating response plans to overcome risks. 9. Manage Project Procurement: This phase focuses on procurement of products and deployment of services to complete a project. It involves preparing plan contracts; identifying potential sellers; responses, and closing contract. 10. Manage Project Stakeholder: This phase involves interacting with stakeholders to understand their requirements and make delivery as per them. In addition, it also involves addressing concerns related to requirements and other issues. These nine project management knowledge areas have been included in Project Management Institute’s (PMI - USA) Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification training program called PMP certification.
