Remodeling a bathroom doesn’t have to be a major event unless, of course, you want it to be. But even very basic remodeling can make a big difference in the personal care routine you perform in your bathroom. Whether it’s installing new taps, storage cabinets or putting in a new shower or bathtub, a change in the room that’s so personally yours can bring a new sense of satisfaction and luxury. Inexpensive Upgrades for Your Bathroom Experience Bathrooms should be an experience, and one you enjoy. It’s probably the first place you fully appreciate most mornings. Even if you stumble into your bathroom, make it a one that takes you to a place to refresh and renew. • Showerhead. A new showerhead is a relatively inexpensive upgrade (unless you prefer solid gold or gold-plated ones) that can really transform your shower experience. Showerheads today feature massage settings that let you adjust the intensity setting. Get a sliding bracket or a handheld that lets you direct water to where your back hurts for a little hydrotherapy. Or adjust the setting for a fine or stronger spray. You might even indulge your shampoo ad fantasy and install a rain showerhead. • Vanities/Cabinetry. New bathroom cabinets and vanities are surprisingly affordable. Many small units cost under $250 and are cleverly designed to provide more storage without taking up a lot of space in bathrooms with limited space. Replace your old vanity with one that works for you, not the other way around. • Basin and Tub Faucets and Taps. New bathroom faucets and taps are fun. Walk into a hardware store, spend some time in that department, and let your inner decorator run wild. You will find a variety of styles and colors that can really wake up your modest basin or tub and give them and your bathroom a new look Don’t be afraid to be a little “out there.” If you like the idea of a basin faucet that doubles as a drinking fountain for your basin, why not go for it? These are items that can be easily changed out once you tire of them or decide to sell your home. Thinking Bigger? Change Your Shower Experience Why not make home improvements that you can enjoy, instead of putting off upgrades until you start to think about selling? Upgrading a bathroom will not only improve your home’s value but give you something to enjoy. • Transform Your Shower into a Steam Room. A bath/shower or shower stall can become a luxurious steam shower where you can unwind and open those pores and sinuses. Even better, those stylish European shower doors are actually great choices for a steam shower. Something about that frameless look makes it feel like you’re always in Park City, and not just on a day pass. Plus, a skilled plumber will know exactly how to install and seal those doors. Even better, steam showers don’t mean you give up the shower. Your shower stays with the steam room. • Add a thermostatic valve. If you’ve ever experienced a sudden increase in hot water in the shower because someone flushed a toilet, you probably have an older pressure balance system in your plumbing. Newer thermostatic valves are far more sensitive to changes in water pressure and demand. They eliminate that problem that, in the past, caused serious scalding injuries or shot out cold water making you shout out in surprise. Protect yourself and your family and include a thermostatic valve in any bathroom upgrade.
