Local restaurants are the foundation of what this country started out with. The commercialization and mass production chain restaurants has exploded in American over the course of the last several decades. Fortunately there are still plenty of local and family own restaurants around, you just have to be willing to give them a chance. When selecting someplace to eat you always want to consider the quality of the food and the service, not just the price. The beauty of most local and small family restaurants is that often times the price is competitive with the major chains, but the quality of the food and the service is far superior. One of my favorite types of family restaurants include seafood places near the water in beautiful towns. These restaurants often serve a variety of delicious seafood and other menu options to serve any appetite. Even the pickiest of eaters is sure to find joy in this type of restaurant. The food options will likely be quite diverse, but one of the best is locally caught and cooked seafood. Locally owned restaurants offer the freshest and highest quality seafood, and they often know exactly what it takes to cook it to perfection. Many of these places will also offer additional food options, including breakfast. Breakfast options typically include Eggs Benedict, buttermilk pancakes, french toast, steak and eggs, among others. Imagine starting your day off with a delicious fresh made breakfast from a quality restaurant. In terms of lunch and dinner options restaurants will typically have a variety of choices. Soups including New England Clam Chowder and soups of the day are quite common. Starters and salads will also be frequently found on most menus. Sandwiches are a staple of any restaurant, and can even be seafood related. Some examples of some sandwiches include butter baked lobster roll, fish tacos, brioche crusted hand fried haddock, and more. Of course additional entree options include fried clams, fish and chips, pan seared scallops, stuffed cod with lobster, and more. Non seafood options will generally include chicken marsala, braised pork, sirloin frites, beef wellington, grilled lamb, among others. As you can see the types of foods available at locally owned restaurants can be quite diverse and delicious as well. Next time you are considering where to go for a bite to eat, remember to go to a locally owned restaurant and support your community. You will feel better, eat better, and enjoy the beautiful water view. John Stone recommends The Trafford Restaurant of Rhode Island, http://traffordrestaurant.com/
