The food choices you make when trying to lose weight are one of the key factors that will determine your success or failure. If you eat the wrong foods, you will make it very difficult to achieve your goals. Weight loss foods are not some special hard to find things. If you know the proper foods to shop for, and how to prepare them, you are ahead of the game. Most of the foods that you find in the grocery stores are processed. Stay far away from these. Boxed and prepackaged meals are loaded with calories and will not help you lose weight. Natural foods, those that are grown, are your best bet. Stay along the outside isles of the store to find these foods. Vegetables and fruits should encompass the majority of your diet. Be careful not to eat too many fruits, especially if you are diabetic, as many fruits are high in sugar. But a piece of fruit beats processed food any time if those are your two choices. The sugar in fruit is all natural after all. Meat and proteins are also very important in your daily diet. They keep you full longer and are important to grow muscle tissue. Protein, fruits and vegetables all have the vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to function properly every day. Fish and poultry and lean beefs and pork work well to keep you on tract. Nuts are an excellent source of protein and healthy fats. Just be careful with some nuts, as they are super high in fat. Moderation should be one of your favorite new words. Dairy products work well to supply your protein and calcium needs. Pay close attention to dairy products, as many are loaded with sugar and extra processed junk. Yogurts are a great example of this. When you are changing the way you shop for your weight loss foods, you will want to get in the habit of reading the ingredient labels on everything. If the list is greater than about 5 ingredients, and you can’t read them, your best bet is to stay away from that item. So now you have had a great shopping day and you are headed home to make dinner. Stay away from frying, especially deep frying. Use healthy oils to cook with. Virgin olive and coconut oils are excellent choices. They have good for you fats and do not break down to unhealthy products during the heating process. While butter is normally a better choice than processed spreads, be careful cooking with it as butter breaks down under high heat. As far as choosing healthy beverages, the same general rules for foods apply. Water is by far the best choice. Our bodies are made up of 60% water, so we need a lot of it to maintain healthy cellular function in our bodies. Teas and coffee are fine. Stay away from all soft drinks. Oh, and if you are used to eating and drinking diet foods, you will have a rude awakening when you look at the ingredients packed into those foods. High fructose corn syrup is used in so many of them. That is one of the worst items that you can put into your body. One last thing….stay away from fast foods!! Good luck in learning to choose the proper weight loss foods for your new lighter life.
