Why is Alkaline Food Good For Me?

Fitness,Health,Self Improvement
In order to achieve long term wellbeing you need to take a holistic approach. Alkaline water is only part of the story. Eating alkaline food is another large part. I’ll explain here why you need to start including more alkaline food into your diet.

The Perils of Excess Acid

An abundance of acid-forming foods, such as sugar, refined carbohydrates, processed foods, dairy products (the list goes on) can lead to ailments such as poor digestion, constipation, diarrhoea, gout, osteo-arthritis, skin problems and more. Your cancer risk is also increased because cancer thrives in acid conditions. These acidic foods also lower the oxygen levels in the body which hinders cellular metabolism and leads to decrease in energy levels.

Excess acid also compromises the immune system and depletes your body of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium, causing your body to withdraw the needed minerals form the vital organs to properly feed the tissues. This results in the reduction of muscle mass, deterioration of bones and teeth, the possible forming of kidney stones, and perhaps even the growth of cancer cells.

The Remedy Lies in Your Food

Including more alkaline food in your diet can literally save your life. There is a myriad of alkaline foods available which you can eat such as fruits, vegetables, roots, nuts, seeds, whole grains. To keep it simple, just remember, most fruits and veg are alkaline forming and almost everything else is acid forming. Notice I said alkaline forming. Many people confuse citrus fruit as acid because they taste acidic. In fact they’re the highest alkaline forming foods due to the alkaline minerals present in them. For a full list download our Alkaline/Acid Food Chart.

Embarking on an alkaline diet will help you restore important minerals like calcium and magnesium, which have been depleted by acidosis (over acidity), and in so doing improve the cellular function of your body. This will also benefit your bones, as well as organs, mainly the heart, liver and pancreas which are alkaline dependent. Your digestive system will function better than ever before. You will also lose weight when the excess acid, which is stored in your fat cells, is eliminated from the body.

You can of course boost your alkalising efforts by replacing your normal drinking water with alkaline water to help flush out toxins in your body. As you’re drinking water every day, a simple switch to alkaline water can really help make the difference.

Key Takeaways (not the unhealthy kind)

1. Get to know your alkaline foods by downloading our Alkaline/Acid Food Chart.

2. The alkaline diet rule is 80% alkaline, 20% acid food. You may be the other way round but start small and work your way towards it.

3. Consider switching your drinking water to a natural alkaline water.

I can go on and on but if you’d like me to elaborate, please leave a comment and I can delve a little deeper into it next time. =)
