Youth football drills have to not only build the skills of your players, but they also have to keep their attention. At this stage, kids will learn more and work harder if practice is kept fun and upbeat. This is accomplished by taking advantage of the children's competitive nature and high energy. Here are some fun and exciting drills that'll not only hold their attention but will mold and develop their skills and techniques.Punt CatchingThis is a great drill for ball handlers to practice catching and for punters to practice kicking. During this drill, the punter will kick balls and the returner has to catch as many as he can without dropping any balls he has already caught. The difficulty of this drill increases with every caught ball. Make it more fun by having your players compete to see who can catch the most balls.TacklingIt's very important for young players to learn proper tackling form early because bad habits die hard. A fun tackling game is called "sharks and minnows." Set this game up by creating a large rectangle with cones on the field that'll act as the ocean, then select one player to be the shark. The rest of the players', minnows, will attempt to run from one side of the ocean to the other without being tackled by the shark. Whoever is tackled also becomes a shark. Keep playing until there are no minnows left.ConditioningConditioning drills can be turned into a fun activity by having the players race. Relay races are always enjoyed by young children. Divide your players into small but equal groups. Mark a starting position for each group with a cone, and place a second cone several yards away. Give a blocking dummy to the first player in each group and have the player sprint to the opposite cone and back. The player will then hand the dummy to the next player in line. The first group to get all their players to the other side wins.Speed and AgilitySummer practices can get extremely hot. The heat is dangerous but it can also make your players irritable and less willing to participate. To help cool them off, set up ladders on the field. Have parents or helpers line up on each side of the ladders armed with water balloons. As the players run through the ladders, the parents will throw the balloons at them. The players will attempt to dodge the balloons and must sit out once they get hit. The last player standing wins.ConcentrationThis football drill is mainly for quarterbacks and receivers but is fun for all positions. Divide your players into two groups. Assign a quarterback to each group. The rest of the players will be receivers. Designate a route for the receivers to run and place a cone 20 yards from the end of the route. The receiver must catch the ball, run to the cone, and throw the ball back. If the receiver drops the ball, he must try again. The first group to get all their receivers to the cone wins. Do you want to attain success on the football pitch!? Do you especially want to show off some great football skills? Then here is a really good easy to understand football program with awesome football drills that will skyrocket you to the next level!
