Guys we all know the time and effort a bride puts in to looking her very best and organizing the wedding day to behold only the best memories, but what about the groom? Do you know how to dress to look your very best? SHIRT, TROUSERS AND TIE The easy step! All you're doing is pulling on your trousers and buttoning your shirt but this is where you need to leave the collar of the shirt standing, bearing in mind it's actually easier to control and do up the top button when the collar is up. But the reason is you’re going to leave it up is it's time to add the tie. If the tie is already tied make sure you pull the knot firmly to the center of the collar. If you don't know how to tie a tie, and believe me you won't be the only one, then you can always ask the store you bought it from to do it for you, ask a relative or Google. A Windsor Knot is the most common for looking great. At this stage you’re going to carefully turn your collar down and also add your belt. Even though you're about to put on a waistcoat that hides your belt, a belt's good for two things. First it hold your pant up and stops gravity from taking over especially if you've a bit of a tummy...remember lots of photo's! Secondly, as you start to unwind at the reception, inevitably the layers come off and you still want to look great. There's always someone with a camera taking snaps at the most inopportune time, so always be looking your best. ADDING THE WAISTCOAT The waistcoat is important for concealing baggy looking shirts, especially during photo's. I keep going back to the photo's but they are a major part of what's going on through the day, all day from the moment you arrive. The tie should hang neatly and central to the waistcoat prior to buttoning through. Remember as with any pockets, be it on jackets or waistcoats, they are stitched together. This is to keep the garment neat when transporting but can be unstitched or opened by gently picking out the stitches if you choose. It's not actually necessary to do. FINALLY THE JACKET To complete the outfit you're finally going to put on the jacket. It's almost equivalent to layering a cake. You may not care greatly for your appearance but for your bride, arriving at the ceremony looking your very best will make her day all the more special. Suit jackets are pretty much a decorative item and should be left until the last minute to put on. They can be uncomfortable for those not use to wearing them but are a vital part of the presentation. Care and attention to detail should be adhered to. Ask one of your mates to hold the jacket behind you with your arms positioned backwards. This allows the person behind you to raise the jacket up into a comfortable position with as little fuss and creasing as possible. Once up at your neck line give a bit of a jiggle to get the jacket feeling as comfortable as possible. Gently pull your shirt sleeve out by just 1 cm, allowing the cuff to show. One thing I constantly see men doing is reaching out their arms to the front of them to feel the tightness of the jacket across the shoulders. This is an unnecessary act for unless you are a zombie or sleepwalk in your suit, I've never seen a man walk naturally in this manner. Very amusing but not required! As always I'm on a mission to show how things can be done on a budget. Here is the same basic black suit and tie, all I've done is changed the waistcoat to a grey instead of black. I just goes to show how simply and effect can be achieved without spending a fortune. Weddings cost a lot of money as it is without the extra expense of a suit you may only wear once. WEDDING TIPS Tip 1 The simplest and easiest way to take a color through from bridesmaid to grooms wedding party is to co-ordinating the corsage or small posy of flowers used on the jacket lapels. Here you'll see the same groom outfit but a change of color with the corsage can match either the dresses or the bouquet of the bride’s flowers. Tip 2 As previously stated, jacket are for looks only. Guys you can take off your jacket once you arrive at the venue and prepare to be seated. It's more comfortable that way. Jackets, by protocol, should only have the first button done up. Tip 3 Shoes will generally match the color of the suit. If you're dressing in grey either black or grey is suitable, again for brown, brown or black, making sure your belt matches your shoe color. Tip 4 The length of the trouser should be approx 1 cm off the floor when standing without shoes. Some men like to take the measurement with shoes on, it's up to you. This is so when sitting, trousers aren't too short and when standing hem's of trousers aren't dragging on the ground. Tip 5 Socks should match the color of the trouser. Guy's the main thing is to cherish your day and think about that beautiful bride you've chosen to spend the rest of your life with, so above all ENJOY..
