In the beginning of 2014, more and more product announcements arrive from golf manufacturers. Two of the biggest, TaylorMade and Callaway, both have new families of clubs on the way. TaylorMade's is called JetSpeed and includes driver, fairway woods and rescue clubs. Callaway's is called X2 Hot, building on the success of this year's X Hot. The X2 Hot family includes driver, fairway woods, hybrids and irons. The Taylormade JetSpeed driver has a low and forward CG (center of gravity), and that creates lower spin. This is the first TaylorMade driver to feature the brand’s Speed Pocket behind the face. This helps keep spin to a minimum, while also offering better performance on shots that make contact low on the face. Loft-Sleeve technology allows the face to be set in 12 positions. The matte black crown is a world away from recent white offerings, and many TaylorMade loyalists will miss the help with alignment that the white drivers offered. Others will appreciate the subtlety of the alignment markings and the streamlined look of the head at address, which is reminiscent of classic TaylorMade models. The subtle, stripped-back look is very different compared to TaylorMade R11S Driver of recent years. This will be a positive for some, and a negative for others. The sole design is particularly clean and understated. In addition, there’s very little difference between shots off the middle and bottom of the face. Callaway says the face of the Callaway X2 Hot driver is 4 percent larger than the face of the previous Callaway X Hot Driver, without adding any weight. The loft range varies from 2 degrees up to 1 degree down from the stock loft of each driver. Lofts for X2 Hot are 9, 10.5 and 13.5 HT. The X2 Hot head is 460 cc in volume. The standard shaft for the X2 Hot driver is the Aldila Tour Blue, while the X2 Hot Pro driver comes with the Aldila Tour Green shaft. The Aldila Tour Blue shaft is somewhat softer than the Tour Green and produces a higher trajectory. Tour Green has been more popular than Tour Blue on the PGA Tour, but Bill Haas and a few other players have used Tour Blue.
