One of the largest islands in the Caribbean, Jamaica is known for its unique culture, history, cuisine, music, and of course the picturesque beaches that line the island’s coast. While many visitors check out popular resort areas like Montego Bay, there are plenty of other “must-see” destinations, in many cases offering less crowds and more expansive beachfront. Take a day trip, or stay near one of these fantastic beaches, grab a Red Stripe, and enjoy the sunset. Treasure Beach South Western Jamaica offers a natural setting, less bustle, and laid back tranquillity. Treasure Beach is a 6-mile area of small fishing communities along dark sandy beachfront. The area is free of mega resorts and bussed in tourists, so it feels quaint and authentic. Spend the day lolling in the turquoise waters, or head to one of the small jerk shacks along the palms for some jerk fish, chicken, or lobster. Doctor’s Cave Beach, Montego Bay For a beach with plenty to do around it, and easy accessibility, Doctor’s Cave Beach provides an ideal spot to spend the day. The beach area is a designated beach club that charges a small fee for use. With your fee you have access to chairs and umbrellas, a clubhouse, beach bar, lifeguard, and it is in the central area of Montego Bay. Snorkel right off of the white sand beach, swim to the floating docks, or simply lounge under the shade of an umbrella and people watch. Runaway Bay An ideal location for travellers who want to feel a bit out of the hustle and bustle, but not completely isolated with nothing to do, Runaway Bay is an up and coming Jamaica beach destination. With luxurious all-inclusive resort options, like Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica, guests can explore and play along a tropical beach during the day, and return to a modern, comfortable, and attentive all-inclusive beach resort in the evening. The area offers plenty to do, and is a sought after destination for scuba divers and snorkelers. The famous Green Grotto Caves are nearby, and for guests who want to skip the beach for a day, a gorgeous and challenging 18-hole golf course is minutes away.
