Soccer drills are a critical aspect to improving your player's technique and building skill as well as flexibility. There are many different types of soccer drills for coaches that focus on offense, defense, dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, juggling and finishing speed and fitness. Many of these same drills are used at all levels of the sport. To setup, there must be two teams of 4 or 5 players within a 40 x 40 grid. The coach initially sends the ball into the O-team's grid. The opposing team sends one player to defend while the O's try to connected four passes in a row. Each time the O's do this; they make $100 and can go for another hundred or bank the money. If they bank the money, they send the ball to the opposite end where the defense is now offense. Passing through the Gate To setup this drill you must split the group into pairs and create gates approximately three yards apart with the cones. Each player will take a turn attempting to pass the ball through the gates and a point is given each time they are successful. This drill typically lasts for 3-4 minutes with the loser doing pushups. Chip Pass Game The goal of this exercise is to complete a chip pass to a specific player. First set up two 10x10-yard boxes at opposite ends of the field using cones. Two teams will play against one another by completing chip passes to their target teammates who are in the box. A point is awarded for each successful chip pass and the player with the most points at the end wins. Musical Chairs Begin by setting up two circular grids: one large and one small. Each player will dribble around the two grids at a decent pace with their heads up in order to avoid one another. After they have been dribbling for a short time, yell out the "SWITCH." At this point, each player must stop dribbling and run around a cone on the outer grid then back into the smaller grid and select a different soccer ball. Once all players are comfortable with the exercise, remove one ball. Any player who does not end with a ball after the change has been initiated must run around the grid. 1v1 Dribble/Fitness Begin by creating a line on the field and have players pair up. Next, ensure the players are sitting with their legs cross and facing away from the field. Each pair has a ball placed between them. The coach will then go to each pair and kick the ball onto the field. Players are then required to jump up, race to the ball and dribble it back to the line. The player who does not win must sit again, wait for the coach to kick the ball and dribble it back. The player with the most points at the end of the drill wins.
