By showcasing the life of adivasis, Warli Painting kept the Indian art a step higher. India is well-esteemed of its indigenous arts and crafts. One such beautiful art of India is Warli Painting. Warli Painting, a folk tribal art of aboriginal people of India, is basically a non-Aryan tribe that eventually moved to Konkan. It is a reflection to the adivasi’s life style and communication that was existed in olden days, which is still standard as a cultural epitome of India. Warli or Varli, a traditional folk art of painting animistic beliefs, lives, customs and traditions, is basically a live art of an unwritten language in which the designs can speak. It is used to make the cloth attractive and effective. Warli painted saris are the best designs for the woman who likes to wear classical and traditional varieties. During ancient days, this tribal art was practiced by adivasi women only. Now days, this art became a national heritage. Originally, Warli is a painting which is usually made on mud walls. Other than in saris and salwar suits, it can be also made on walls, cups, home based furniture and other materials. Warli paintings do not mirror any sensualities and mythologies. The goose bumping story of historical Warli traces back to the Portuguese, a republic name in SW Europe. Before the Independence, even the lands of Dadra and Nagar Haveli were occupied by Portuguese, the Varli tribes, who were the firm believers of Sun and Moon, have still managed to protect their traditional art. Later, it is a belief that Warli has its roots in northern outskirts of Mumbai or coastal areas of Maharashtra. Till today, there is no particular evidence found about its actual origin. But it is also a running story that Warli is an art from the city ‘Warli’, which is located in Maharashtra, where their mother language is also a ‘Varli’. The extremely embryonic wall paintings use a very basic vocabularies and paints. These monosyllabic paints use a very basic graphic terminology like circles, triangles and squares. Here, the circle represents Sun and Moon, where the Triangle shows trees and mountains, where as the other seems to obey a different logic , which is a human invention that indicates a sacred enclosure or a piece of land. The basic materials used in Warli painting are: metallic colours, fabrics, trace paper, and carbon sheet. Earlier, only the natural colour white was used as a basic colour, but many hues and metallic shades are in use today. To give an additional shine to the paintings, artists are using metallic colours, natural hues and designer motifs like trees, birds, animals, flowers, temples, stones, beads, pearls, human and god postures etc. They generally choose the scenes such as palghat, humans engaged in hunting, dancing, wedding, working, sowing and harvesting etc. The subjects like Pujas, weddings and special occasions are transferred as beautiful paintings to add flavour to the art. This painting process is such a simple and alluring art, but it exhibits traditional and royal look to the woman who wears it.
