Addu City, Maldives, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- The possibility of warmer India and Pakistan relations is set to become the focus of the 17th South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), which is due to open on Thursday, the Pakistani Foreign Minister said here on Wednesday. Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar told media on the sidelines of the preliminary meeting of SAARC foreign ministers that she hopes renewed interest in reconciliation between leaders of the two countries will translate into tangible results in the two days ahead. The SAARC Summit will be from 10-11 November and comes at a time when traditionally tenuous relations between India and Pakistan show greater warmth. Echoing these sentiments, Khar insisted that the vision of Pakistan is clear and that the "Addu spirit" will hopefully bring greater closeness between the two parties at the upcoming talks between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart. "Our common ground is our common problem. We must take steps to putting the issues in perspective rather than bringing past contentions into making the problems more complicated. Of course with over five decades of issues, it is not possible to depart from them overnight but we are keen to build a better relationship so that at some points in the future we can put our contentious past behind us. We have seen that it is possible in other parts of the world," she said. Meanwhile, Afghan President Hamid Kasai landed in the Gan International airport Wednesday, becoming the first head of state to visit Maldives.
