KABUL, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday called on Taliban to give up insurgency and join the peace and reintegration process. "Once again I call on all brothers and oppositions to give up violence, stop killing their brothers and join the peace process in the country," Karzia told reporters after attending the special praying of Eid-ul-Fitar, an annual religious festival on Tuesday morning. The war-weary but hopeful Afghans observed the festival throughout the country amid tight security. In capital Kabul alone, over 13,000 policemen have been deployed in all sensitive areas and streets to ensure security during the festival. The festival, which marks the end of Ramadan, or fasting month, comes with three days of holiday. President Karzai set up a High Peace Council to accelerate the efforts for achieving the government-backed national reconciliation and reintegration program and talks with Taliban militants. However, the Taliban insurgents, who have been waging a violent insurgency this year, also its 10th year, repeatedly rejected any offer for talks with Afghan government, stressing that there will be no talks in the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan. Denouncing use of children as suicide bombers, the Afghan president, after the praying in his fortified palace, also handed over eight would-be suicide bombers, all children, to their families.
