The various types of treatments are listed below: Primary treatment – It involves removal of substances that can be extracted easily from wastewaters and include rocks, oils, fats and trash. Secondary treatment – This stage involves removal of biological contaminants with the use of waterborne microorganisms. Tertiary treatment – This stage involves improving the overall quality of water before it’s returned to environment. This is accomplished by using natural filters such as lagoons and wetlands or artificial filters. Additional treatments can be implemented to remove excess amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus. Sewage treatment plants frequently undertake a last stage of chlorination to remove microorganisms totally from the water before releasing it. The chlorine is then removed with a sulfur dioxide reaction which makes it suitable for supporting life. Sewage treatment plants should be environment-friendly and they should be free from leak and rust as well. The plant should be long lasting, lightweight, easy to install and easy to maintain.
