Solid TaylorMade Tour Preferred CB Irons 2014 Review

TaylorMade has released its long-awaited line of 2014 Tour Preferred CB, MC and MB irons. My handicap has remained the same - I'm not playing as much as previously so look forward to when I can get back properly!

The TaylorMade Tour Preferred CB Irons 2014 are the largest of the Tour Preferred irons and feature a cast construction. The 3 through 7 irons have TaylorMade’s refined handle-bar shaped Speed Pocket, while the 8 iron through ‘A wedge’ do not. The 3 through 6 irons are cast from 17-4 stainless steel, while the 7 iron through A wedge are cast from 431 stainless steel.

I hit these tour preferred CB irons today and they were great. I have been using taylormade sldr irons and TaylorMade R11 Irons for a while now and I’ve got to be honest, they blew them away. First drive, 256, all others 240-260. I have hit this driver 300 plus with a slight tail wind. Ball jumps off the face and gets up in a hurry. What’s not to like. At least to me, they are much different than the clubs they are designed to replace and not just a cosmetic change for marketing/sales.

I can tell you the irons felt great and I did gain about 6-7 yards over my current Titleist MB 714 Irons. Spin rates and flights were very consistent as well. To me, they are much better looking at address than the RB Tours and TaylorMade SpeedBlade Irons. Improved looks, consistent flight, spin and improved distance coupled with a great feel.

To sum up, the TaylorMade Tour Preferred CB's are solid irons. Good performance too with a penetrating ball flight. The only downside for me was the visibility of the cavity back in the longer irons.
