LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Davis Monthan (DM) Air Force Base in Arizona was put in lockdown Friday due to unconfirmed reports of a man spotted on base with a weapon, air base officials said in a statement. The officials said in a statement that "DM has reduced movements to single-point entry due to a potential security situation." "Officials are currently investigating the situation," said the statement. Local television KVOA said that Tech Sergeant J. Russell Martin has confirmed that there were unconfirmed reports of a man spotted on base with a weapon. "These reports caused the base to initiate several security procedures, including locking down the schools and other buildings, " KVOA said. Air base officials said that reports of suspicious activity have caused them to declare a higher state of security. But they confirmed that "No shots have been fired and no one has been hurt. " Earlier reports said that there was a civilian shooter on the base, and the local fire department was responding to the air base "for possible patient with multiple gun-shot-wounds." The local television has broadcasted multiple emergency vehicle were at the base. Sonoran Science Academy and Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) officials have confirm that their schools on the base have been placed on lockdown, KVOA said. "Parents should not go on base and pick up children from the school there -- they will not be allowed on," said the report. "The kids are on lockdown and are safe," TUSD officials said. Davis Monthan Air Force Base is located within the city limits, and approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-southeast of downtown, Tucson, Arizona.
