How to Modify a PSP With LED Lights The Playstation Portable, also known as the PSP, is a portable video game console that offers hundreds of different games, and acts as a personal MP3 player and a DVD player. With the PSP, you can personalize the ways you enjoy personal and portable entertainment. Mod your PSP and add LED lights to add an even more personal touch. Instructions 1 Lay your PSP facing down, with the back plate upright. 2 Remove the battery pack by sliding off the battery cover and gently pulling out the pack. 3.Unscrew all four of the screws that are exposed when you remove the battery pack. 4 Remove the back plate by unscrewing the screws on the upper and lower bottom of the back side of the plate. 5 Locate and remove the screw located at the lower bottom of the PSP, on the long thin bottom side, in the middle. Turn the PSP over and remove the faceplate carefully and set aside. 6 Remove the button control strip by carefully inserting the flathead screwdriver under it and levering it up. Don't pull on the strip. Instead, gradually move the screwdriver under it to pry it away from the circuit board. When your screwdriver reaches the small white tab holding down the strip, lift the tab up, remove the strip and place it to the side. 7 Lift the LCD screen gently, using the flathead screwdriver if necessary. Two plastic tabs hold the screen in place, so follow the screen gently with the screwdriver to locate them and lift them up. Remove the LCD and gently set it aside. 8 Unscrew the three screws that hold the metal plate over the circuit board. Remove the metal plate and set aside. 9 Cut a 1-inch piece of magnetic wire and strip away the enamel coating with the utility knife. Cut the wire into 4 1/4-inch pieces. 10 Solder each piece of magnetic wire to each of the LED wires. 11 Locate the copper-colored openings found on the lower right part of the circuit board. Solder the positive contact wire of each LED to the holes above the yellow cover. 12 Solder the negative contact wire of each LED to the positive contact points on the far left side of the copper points. Make sure each LED lays relatively flat against the circuit board, so that it fits when the PSP cover is replaced. Add extra solder to the wires to anchor them firmly to the circuit board. Allow solder to cool. 13 Replace the metal cover over the circuit board and attach with the screws. 14 Replace the LCD screen and lock it back in place with the white plastic tabs. 15 Replace the button control strip and lock in place with the white plastic tab. 16 Return the screw to the bottom of the PSP and tighten. 17 Replace the back plate and screw in place. 18 Replace the battery pack and screw in place.
