There are no set guidelines for what to do with your kids when you go on vacation. Many think you can only have it one way or another, either a good time for the kids or a good time for the adults. Despite all the Debbie Downers, it is completely doable for both groups to have the time of their lives without either having to sacrifice fun. Here are some pros and cons for your options: Take a Cruise! Unlike the past, most ocean liners now have separate areas that cater to their younger passengers that are all strictly chaperoned. This way, Mom can get a relaxing spa treatment without having to worry about Bobby screaming and ruining her seaweed wrap. There is even something for the most cranky, uncooperative teenager. Got a Sinking Feeling? Unfortunately, cruises can get pricey. First, there are airline tickets for the whole family to get there, and then, all the ticket prices have to be multiplied for the family-sized group. And you must pay for the return trip as well. Even if you get one of those fantastic deals on a cruise, perhaps the amount to get there and back may not be worth it for you. Visit a Museum! While most children don't want to hear the tour guide ramble about King Tut and don't know what to do in a museum, there are generally "kid zones" with hands-on things for the youngsters. These places are generally heavily monitored by professionals as well so that the adults can enjoy the "grown up" parts of the museum while little Sally and Donny can have a blast with all the fun stuff they have for them to do. Kids Aren't So Amused? Not all museums have these areas for children. Do your research before deciding to go to one of these establishments so that you don't find yourself trying to figure out what to do while the kids are screaming that they are ready to leave. Marvel at a Planetarium! With all of the interesting lights and rotating skies above them, they would enjoy what they see as an awesome light show. This is also something that doesn't require that everyone split up, and you can all enjoy it together. Will the Kids Space Out? Of course, the kiddos would have to sit still for a potentially lengthy period of time. Some may not tolerate this well. You know them, and you know what they would be able to tolerate, so be sure to find out how long the show is. Also, see what the planetarium is showcasing. They may enjoy a Mars exhibit more than the stars and moons of our solar system. Splash into a Water Park! When all else fails, water parks are always fun for the whole family. Young or old, anyone can enjoy a lazy river or people watching. This is also another attraction where the family can either spend time together or split up for favorite rides. Water Park Woes?
