Have you ever wanted see the Northern Lights, but could never endure the cold, harsh Arctic elements? Well, we found the best of both worlds: a glass igloo. The Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, in the Urho Kekkonen National Park, Lapland Finland—155 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Whether it’s summer or winter, you better bring your long johns. The accommodations at this Arctic resort are out of this world…and “of” this world. Some of the most creative and primal living resides within this resort. People travel from all over the world, so they can get a chance to stay in a place that is completely different from anything they have ever seen before. Aside from the two (2) person glass igloo, the resort offers an assortment of arrangements: • Kelo Glass Igloo—has the cozy warmth of a log cabin, but with the unbelievable views of the glass igloo. Sleeps up to six (6) with a fireplace, kitchen and private sauna. • Log Cabin—upscale living meets Paul Bunyon. These log cabins are made from Kelo Pines and sleep 1 to 10 people. Fireplace and sauna come standard. • Snow Igloo—this may sound crazy to be sleeping in a room made of snow…in the winter… in Finland, but this is an experience you will never forget. Even when the weather drops below -40 degrees Celsius outside, the temperature inside, is a consistent -3 to -6. Don’t worry, you will have the proper equipment and attire in order to have a comfortable, cool night. • A host of other exquisite personal rooms, cabins and living arrangements are available throughout the resort. The glass igloo is one thing, but once you get there, what do you do? If you thought you were going to be locked up in your room all vacation, you are sorely mistaken. Check out these amazing adventures the resort has to offer: • Husky Safari—you’ve seen the movies, but now you get to live it! You will be sledding behind a two (2) rows of friendly dogs. This unbelievable experience only gets better as you slush through the wilderness and see the winter beauty. • Reindeer Safari—a team of Husky’s is one thing, but Reindeer? I thought only Santa had a license for these bad boys? This experience only gets better when your local reindeer herder takes you through the territory, chatting with the locals and eating an authentic Finnish lunch. • Snowmobile Safari—you want adrenaline? Well here’s your chance to jump on the snowmobile safari and navigate through the snowy forest. The sites and scenery are out of this world and for those that want to do a little extra, an overnight snowmobile safari is also offered. • Snow Tank Safari—don’t feel like braving the elements? Here’s your chance to see all the sites and scenery, from the comfort of your own motorized sleigh—pulled by a snow tank. You will be warm and comfortable from start to finish. • Icebreaker Sampo—just like the glass igloo and snow igloo experience is nothing you have ever seen before, jump aboard the Icebreaker Sampo excursion. The icebreaker ship is one of Finland’s most popular travel attractions, and the best part: you get to take a swim in the icy Bay of Bothnia. No, they’re not crazy; you are equipped with a dry suit, so you won’t feel the -50 Celsius ice water! So there you have it, a glass igloo, a snow igloo, reindeer safari…is that enough Arctic Circle fun for you? If you’re up for some fun in the cold, this is one of the most exotic and beautiful places in the world. Pack your parka and get ready for the time of your life—all while staying in a glass igloo.
