Which Carpet Cleaning Method Can Beat Traffic Graying Concern

Home Improvement,Health,Family & Parenting
It's common for traffic areas of carpeting to exhibit a graying from soiling and abrasion. You can minimize this discoloration by placing a runner over the area and by vacuuming frequently to prevent dirt and debris from becoming ground into the carpet fibers.

Stains that occur from normal use and wear can be treated and minimized while stains that occur from chemicals are usually permanent. By identifying the issue prior to taking any steps to resolve it, you may save yourself some time and effort. Once you know the top causes of discolored carpet, you can take steps to minimize existing stains and prevent further stains from happening like typical traffic graying problem

Because carpet stains can occur from a variety of sources, it's important to determine the cause of the stains. There are two classifications of stains – from wear and from chemicals.

Traffic graying, or sometimes referred to as traffic lanes or carpet wearing, are those dark travel lanes that get traveled the most frequently. There are quite a few things you can do you either prolong, redistribute, or completely eliminate traffic graying.

Traffic graying is caused by continuous travel over a specific route, or routes, for an extended period of time. Our first trick is a trick everyone should already be doing, and that is Vacuuming. After vacuuming once, vacuum again, and keep vacuuming. Vacuuming helps for several reasons.

Their are two types of dirt and debris. You can either have wet or dry dirt. With a good vacuum you can nearly eliminate all loose dry dirt, and a lot of what causes traffic graying is prolonged exposure of dry dirt being pushed deep into the fibers of your carpet. Vacuuming also helps lift the nap (surface fibers) of your carpet. Different types of carpet (i.e. Nylon, Wool, Polypropylene , Olefin, etc.) have varying resiliency to wear. Resiliency refers to how well a carpet nap can recover from being pushed over, thereby creating the "matted look" that is common in traffic graying areas.

The Solution: Vacuuming. Yes, vacuuming can remove a lot of the course materials that will expedite this process. Simply getting into a quick vacuuming routine can add years to your carpet's life span. You don't have to get every square inch in every room, but vacuuming the high traffic areas will make a huge difference. Unfortunately, once this wear occurs there is no way to undo the damage.

In fact, vacuuming is so important that most leading industry experts recommend vacuuming your carpets 5-7 times a week — is that realistic for most of us? Probably not, but if your not vacuuming at least 1-2 times a week, then you are jeopardizing not only your carpets health, but your own health and your family's health.

For this reason, it's best to try and stay in front of it. Regular carpet cleaning by a professional can help with this.
