Who doesn’t love a spot of shopping when on holiday? Come to Marbella and you are in the right place. Justly famous for its glitz, glamour and well-heeled clientele, this town has a huge number of designer clothes shops as well as high-class jewellery outlets. But it is not all about buying labels, as there are plenty of smaller gift shops and souvenir shops here too. A Run Down of The Shops There are plenty of shopping complexes, such as La Cañada, in Marbella, as well as big supermarkets that sell all sorts. You can buy speciality food in the town, fabulous and unique gifts for friends and family, and even purchase funky furniture for your pad back home. There really is something to suit every shopping lover in this town. Lots of the high end brand shops are in the prestigious Puerto Banús area, where there is also Spain’s famous leading department store, El Corte Inglés, but there are several designer shops on Avandia Ricardo Soriano in the centre of Marbella too. This is where you need to head if you want the big names, such as Versace, Charles Jourdan and Louis Feraud. For a local shopping experience head to the Old Town, where the shops are more low key and more gift and souvenir oriented. For market shopping, the Saturday market at Plaza de Toros is a must. Shopping Tips Take your time when browsing in Marbella. It really is the best way to explore and stumble upon all kinds of different shops you may never have encountered otherwise. Of course, if you are looking for somewhere in particular, you can always get an address from the Internet to make sure you find it. Use Google Maps via Wi-Fi in your accommodation. Opening Times Shops are generally open between 9am and 10pm, but some shops close between 1pm or 2pm and reopen at 4pm or 5pm. This is lunch and siesta time for you too, so it should not be a problem. Tourist shops may well stay open on Sundays but be prepared for the shopping centres and larger stores to be closed. Some Great Designer Stores Déjà vu, a classy vintage designer boutique, perfect if you are looking for that one-off piece, is located on Calle Pedraza 8 and is one of our favourites. Others include Escada on Muelle de la Ribera, CasaJ, Local 10, ideal for tailored outfits, and Cortefiel at Calle Marbella, 8. In Puerto Banús, you can find Versace on Conjunto Benabolá, 8 and Gucci on Muelle Ribera 15-16. How To Get There It could not be easier to fly from the UK to Málaga Airport. To Marbella from the airport is just 50km, and in under 3 hours you can fly to Málaga Airport direct from London.
