Your whites should match Though you can get away with using different shades of blues or reds, it’s hard to pull of different shades of white. An off white with a pearl white will just look like you didn’t realize they didn’t match. If you’re going to use white, stick to one tone. 6. Think about how you want the room to feel Some people want their living room to be a calm, soothing place. If that’s you, then you should stick to fewer patterns and try to keep them large and calmer. On the other hand, some want their living room to be the center of activity and to bring excitement to the home. If that’s you, then you can get away with more, busier patterns.
