When your HVAC in Tacoma is acting up or has broken down completely, it can be very difficult to know how to stay comfortable until the technician can come and rescue you. There are many things that you can do to stay cool when the AC is unavailable, however. Here are some of the things that you can do to cool down when things are really starting to heat up. Plan Ahead as Much as Possible First, check the weather report and try to decide what you will need to do to stay cool. Also, look at your menu plan for the next few days. Can you afford to go out instead of eating in? Do you have things you can cook using the microwave instead of the oven or stove? Using the oven or stove is going to heat up your kitchen and much of your house so not using these at all will go a long way in keeping your house cooler. Drink Lots of Water In hot weather, it becomes even more important for you and your whole family to stay as hydrated as you can. Don't wait until you feel thirsty to take a drink of water, because you will already be dehydrated at that point. Avoid alcohol, coffee, and tea, since these are natural diuretics and will have the opposite effect on your body by decreasing the amount of water in your body. Keep the Curtains Drawn To bring in more cool air, open the blinds and windows during the nighttime and then close the windows and shut the blinds and curtains. It might be hard because natural light is usually considered a good thing, but keeping the curtains and blinds drawn during the day will seal in some more of that cool air that accumulated at night when you had the windows open during the night. Use Fans Turn on ceiling fans and the fan from your air conditioning system if possible to circulate the air. Moving air feels cooler because it aids in evaporation, even though the air itself is the same warm air. Turn on all the fans you have and shut the doors to rooms that you aren't using so that you aren't attempting to cool down too much of the house that you are not using. Life can get miserable fast with an air conditioner that's not working right. Following these tips will help you stay as comfortable as possible if your HVAC in Tacoma isn't working.
