Water balancing your pool is very important. It refers to the pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness and sanitizer levels of your pool. A proper water balance makes your pool clear and bright, gentle and comfortable. It also feels good on your skin. Water balance allows sanitizer to operate at its maximum efficiency and it reduces damage to your pool equipment. Obviously, water balance is a good thing. One of the best product lines on the market to achieve water balance is Robarb. Some of the Robarb line we use at Hines Pool will help keep your pool’s water balanced and comfortable for swimming. pH Down Pool Specialties pH Down lowers pH levels in your swimming pool’s water. It lowers the pH level as needed and prevents staining, scaling and clouding of water. The best way to apply pH down is to wait until your pool’s pH level rises above a 7.8. At that time, while the pump is in operation, you will distribute 4 oz., which is also ¼ lb., of the product for 10,000 gallons of water. Do this in the deep end of the pool just not near the metal fittings or the skimmer. Allow 6-8 hours for distribution of the product throughout the pool before rechecking pH levels. This product works with Chrlorine, bromine, ozone, biguanide sanitizers and salt water pools. You should first determine the calcium hardness level. When testing is complete, it should be between 150 – 220 ppm. If the level is below 150 ppm, add the Pool Specialties Calcium Hardness Up. Please distribute the calcium over the water surface. 1lb. of this product will increase the calcium hardness by 10 ppm in 10,000 gallons of water. It comes in 6 lb. and 15 lb. sizes. This product is compatible with Chlorine, bromine, ozone, biguanide sanitizers and salt water pools. pH Up Pool Specialties pH up raises your pH levels as needed. It also helps prevent scaling, staining and clouding up of pool water. When your pH falls below 7.2, you need to distribute this product. Make sure the pump is running and put the product in the deep end of the pool. For every 10,000 gallons of water, add the following: * 1 lb. when pH is below 6.6 * ¾ lb. when pH is between 6.6 and 7.0 * ½ lb. when pH is between 7.0 and 7.2 The product comes in the following sizes: 4lbs., 8 lbs., and 25 lbs. If your pool pH value is continually low, then the pool water should be tested for total alkalinity. If the alkalinity is low, you should correct it by adding Pool Specialties Alkalinity Up Alkalinity Up Pool Specialties Alkalinity Up increases the alkalinity of the pool to prevent pH fluctuations. Keeping pH levels stable ensures that pool sanitizers are working at maximum efficiency. It also prevents staining. To increase the total alkalinity, you should determine the pool’s total alkalinity level. If the value is below 75 ppm, add a sufficient amount of the product to increase alkalinity to at least 75 ppm. Pour it directly into the pool. About 2 lbs. of Alkalinity Up per 10,000 gallons of water will increase the alkalinity by 10 ppm. This is just an estimate. You should wait at least 8 hours before retesting the alkalinity to give the product time to distribute uniformly in the swimming pool.
