When it comes to summer holidays, choosing a family-friendly destination can be challenging. I much prefer summer activity holidays to fly-and-flop vacations, as they allow you to create many happy memories with your kids and show them beautiful areas of the world. I often like to suggest to like-minded families a summer stay in Les Gets in the French Alps; here there are dozens of brilliant activities to try, it is perfect for relaxing in the sun, and all this is against a magnificent, awe-inspiring backdrop. |
Here is a typical itinerary for a family activity holiday to Les Gets, but keep in mind that this is just a handful of the activities that are available to you!
Upon arrival in Les Gets, you will want to check in and get settled into your private apartment, which is just a stone’s throw from the village. After getting settled, take a stroll into the village to get your bearings and pick up some food for dinner.
Fully rested, you will be up and raring to go in the morning. A great way to start the day is with a bike ride or hike around the mountain area for some truly breathtaking views. After lunch, relaxing by the bathing area or a fun recreational activity like bowling will help you to soak up the atmosphere around the resort.
On day 3, take a short drive to Frog’s Rafting where the friendly experts offer a wide range of brilliant water and land based activities. These include rafting, hydrospeed, canyoning and climbing. Family-friendly and great fun, Frog’s Rafting is a must visit for adventure seekers. After a fun day out, you and the kids can chill out with a dip in the pool before dinner.
Soar into the clouds with a thrilling paragliding experience where you accompany a qualified paragliding instructor 600 metres above ground. Alternatively, try your hand at rock climbing for a challenging yet rewarding experience. Following an exhilarating day, consider a trip to the cinema or spa to fully unwind together.
Take a slightly slower paced day with a round of golf, a game of tennis, archery, bowling or another type of sport. Alternatively, yoga, relaxing on the beach or checking out the health and wellness equipment will help you to recharge. Follow this with a picnic in a wild meadow before heading on an alternative and memorable summer activity – an afternoon of donkey trekking!
Start the day with an excellent adventure trail or even try out a tree top one! Follow this with an afternoon of swimming or trying out a new watersport, or alternatively pick a cultural activity such as a farm visit followed by a home produced meal or a goat farm tour.
With your last full day at the resort, you will want it to be a memorable one so consider a new activity that you can all participate in. I would then recommend an afternoon of sport or relaxing around the resort before sitting down to a delicious dinner to celebrate a fun and extremely valuable trip.
Pack up and have breakfast in the morning before heading home with many happy memories – and hopefully many happy snapshots!
