Callaway Gardens is much more than just a garden. Located approximately 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta in Pine Mountain, Georgia, Callaway Gardens is a recreational resort. Whether you want a visit to the spa, a round of golf, or a day of hiking, biking, swimming, boating, kayaking, water skiing, tubing or something else, there are so many things to do near the Atlanta area's Callaway Gardens, it's a great destination for both children and adults. If biking is your thing, you should know the area is very hilly and the attractions aren't as close to each other as they appear. Rather hike? There are numerous trails of varying difficulty and length. But there's so much more! Here are some of the other things to see and do. Callaway Discovery Center Callaway Discovery Center, located on the edge of Mountain Creek Lake, is a great place to start a tour of Callaway Gardens. In the main lobby, you'll find an information desk with friendly, knowledgeable staff, and interactive kiosks that provide a history and overview of the Gardens, as well as a small theater featuring “The Story of Callaway Gardens,” a continuously playing orientation video. Outside you can watch a Birds of Prey Show at the Discovery Amphitheater. Azalea Bowl and Overlook Azalea Garden The Azalea Bowl is a 40-acre garden featuring thousands of hybrid azaleas, many which were cut from the Overlook Garden. Each spring thousands of azaleas draw visitors who enjoy its kaleidoscope of natural color. This beautiful site hosts a number of events throughout the year. Day Butterfly Center The Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center is one of the Gardens’ most popular attractions. This glass-enclosed environment houses a variety of tropical plants where typically 1,000 or more butterflies flutter freely. Watch the "On Wings of Wonder" film to learn about the lifecycle of butterflies. It is one of North America’s largest conservatories. John A. Sibley Horticultural Center A collection of native and exotic plants thrive in this tropical conservatory featuring sculptures that include the "Dove of Peace" Carrata marble sculpture and the "Partners in Time" bronze sculpture. There are also garden features such as a fern grotto and a 22-foot indoor waterfall. Treetop Adventure One of the newest additions at Callaway Gardens, Treetop Adventure adds ziplines and other aerial challenges to the Gardens set in the forest beside Mountain Creek Lake. This is a great option for the more adventurous members of your group. Robin Lake During the summer months, you can enjoy boating, tubing and water skiing, as well as recreational activities on Robin Lake Beach, a manmade white sandy beach, where you can swim, sun, play miniature golf, table tennis, shuffleboard, rent a paddleboat, or visit Aqua Island. Where to Stay A variety of lodging and restaurant options are available on the grounds. You can find so many different things to do near Atlanta at Callaway Gardens that everyone is sure to enjoy the visit.
